    Help

I want to know something about Tata Safari. Plz can anyone tell me the difference between safari patrol EXi 4X2 & safari patrol EXi 4X4. I want to know that for what 4X2 & 4X4 stands here. & also there are a variety of engines available in the market. I dont that the capacity of engines on fuel indicates what, i.e. 2.0 liter engine can give what a 1.2 liter engine cant. I have some more queries, but plz first answer these.

    Thanx a lot in advance.

    Re: Help

The only difference that exists between these 2 variants of the Tata Safari is that the 4x2 one is a 2 wheel drive whereas the 4x4 is a 4 wheel drive vehicle.

Four-wheel drive, 4WD, or 4x4 ("four by four") is a four-wheeled vehicle with a drivetrain that allows all four wheels to receive power from the engine simultaneously. This feature is often, but not always, included in the broader sport utility vehicle (SUV) category. Used mostly for off-road driving & rugged terrain, powering all four wheels provides better control on many surfaces, and is an important part of rally racing.

And as far the 2.0L or 1.2L is concerned, that specifies the engine size. The bigger the capacity in litres the bigger & more powerful the engine is. So what a 2.0L engine can give you is loads of more power & acceleration than the 1.2L engine but what you lose in the bargain is fuel efficiency which is better in smaller engines. The more the power in the car the lesser will be the fuel efficiency. There exists an inverse relationship.

I hope that solves your query arvind !!

    Thanx a lot
Thanx Sagar, It really helps me. Now I m thinking to buy a SUV car, can u suggest which one is better. My first choice was Tata Safari Patrol Exi 4X4, but after ur post I think 4X2 can also b better. Bcoz I am not going to participate in rallies or races. Plz suggest the car within a budget of 10,00,000 - 15,00,000 and also which fuel will be better: petrol or diesel. As far as I know patrol give less milage but also lesser noise & maintenance & more power, whereas diesel engine give more milage, less power & also high maintenance & noise. So what will you suggest. I think you have vast knowledge about cars, & this will help me. I have some more questions but will asked later.

    Re: Thanx a lot

Well arvind seems like you like big cars !! Well currently at the moment the SUV's that seem to be doing really well are the Honda CR-V and the Hyundai Tucson. The CR-V is definitely very expensive but its a dream car. And also probably the best looking one of the lot.

Probably the one that could fit your budget right now is the Tucson - its diesel & has loads of power. U can actually also look at the Toyota Innova diesel. Its a very comforatable car with a lovely performance. It almost doen't seem like a diesel car at times. N to top it up its a Toyota. The Tata Safari is also always an option. But my suggestion to you would be that you should really test drive these cars once before finalising on which one to buy. Afterall the driving feel can only be experienced once you sit behind the wheel !!

I almost forgot about the Ford Endeavour & the new Grand Vitara. They should also fit your budget.

    Help for Fuel
Hi Sagar, As I told u earlier that I m interested in buying an SUV, then can u tell me that, which kind of fuel will b better for SUVs. like petrol, diesel, CNG(Not available everywhere), or LPG. From where should I have to buy an LPG kit.

    Re: Help for Fuel

Personally speaking i would prefer a petrol or a diesel SUV since thats where the charm lies. But only if you drive really long kms through the month would you wanna go in for a cng or a lpg kit because they are definitely huge running cost savers. I myself am driving a cng fitted esteem for over 2 years now because my average drive is around 70-100 kms a day. So its a great saving at the end of the day no doubt. But as far as lpg is concerned, frankly speaking i'm not too familiar with it. I just feel that cng is a lot more safer than lpg any day and thats primarily the reason i stuck by it. And I dun regret it one bit. I'm so happy with the way my car is performing.

So what i would suggest you to do is to shortlist a few of the cars that you're considering buying keeping in mind your daily travel. And then maybe once you've done that i can try helping you out. As for now i'm helpless.

    Re: Help for Fuel

I feel both the cars cater to a different kind of audience..

The Skoda Laura VRS is a really sporty petrol car with 200bhp of horse power...purely for the auto enthusiast who loves power & speed...it is one hell of a mean machine. Every Skoda lover's dream car !! (Even though its not available in India yet. The one available currently is the Skoda Octavia Turbo RS with a 1.8L 150bhp petrol engine)

But as far as the Skoda Laura Ambiente goes - this car is a perfect blend of luxury with economy. You can sit back and relax in the comfort of its huge space while your chauffeur drives you around. Being a diesel car its fuel economy is also definitely way better than the Octavia VRS. And this car is equipped with all the comforts & features that one can get at this price.

So from my side, its a big thumbs up to both of them !! You can't really compare the two..

Maybe you could be a better judge as to which audience category do you fit in the best.

    Re: Help for Fuel

I would vouch for a diesel engine any day not only does the fuel burn better but they are also good if u want to travel long distances regularly.
