Its not astonishing that till a few years ago Mercedes was the ultimate brand name in luxury cars in India. It was a status symbol for the rich & the elite. With the rich growing richer & the current no. of options available with them in the luxury car market, is the Mercedes tag kind of fading away? Till one point of time it was like a monopoly for Mercedes in the luxury car market in India. But today the customers want the luxury of choice when they spend on a premium product. With the growing competition from the BMW's, the Audi,s & the Porsche's - Mercedes Benz can finally see the carpet slipping right under its feet.
This can be supported with facts that completely go in BMW's favour. They have well crossed their annual target of 1,000 cars & have sold 1,200 cars already. BMW is seeing huge potential in this growing luxury car market in India & is looking forward to tap it big time. The company plans to sell 1,350 cars annually in the country in the luxury segment, where the
total luxury car sale is expected to touch 4,500 next year. At this rate BMW could surely be the No. 1 player in the market in this segment.
And why not, the BMW's & the Audi's any day stand a better chance against their Mercedes rivals in terms of styling, comfort, ride quality & performance. So who would really wanna settle in for a Mercedes when there are better looking meaner machines out there available at the same price tag. Atleast i wouldn't. Would you?
