Why do dealers discourage from buying a red coloured car?

I am looking to buy a Honda City and am pretty serious about the Royal Ruby red colour. However, most people are discouraging from buying a red coloured car. The reasons given are -

    • Any scratches etc. would stand out more than the usual silverish coloured cars.
    • The resale value of red cars is lower.

I want to get some serious feedback on whether this is correct, specially from people who already have red cars or had them in the past.

I don't think the Honda City comes in a red colour...isn't it somewhat maroonish?

I somehow simply happen to love that colour...i think the Honda City just looks fabulously stunning in that colour...one of my friend has it n i so envy it. It just makes the car look really awesome for some reason.

I own an esteem myself which is again in a maroonish colour and i dun see any problem with y people should not buy a car coloured in any shade of red? If red was so bad a colour then y wud 90% of the Ferraris sold all over the world be red in colour. (even though thats not the colour you're talking about here, but still)

I just feel that the colour of car that you own is just an extension of your personality and you should just totally follow your heart on this one. For eg: Arindham Choudhary has a fascination for the colour blue to such an extent that everything he owns from his house to his bentley is all blue. N he simply loves it. Vijay Mallya owns this striking red Bentley just because its an extension oh him, his lifestyle. So its about being individualistic here. N its not that you're being a parrot green coloured car or something. So just relax, my friend!!

N as far as the scratches go i think that they're gonna be visible on any dark coloured car, Ruby red is not an exception here. If thats the case then people should just stop buying Black cars...but they still do...don't they?? Because they just have this royal feel to them!

N since when did resale value of cars start depending on their colour...now thats definitely some news!!

    Cheers !!

Well In USA statistics show that the accident rate is high only in a red car. People tend to drive faster when the car is red as its a sports color. So is why even the insurance for a red car is marginally higher than a normal car. And this system is soon going to be incorporated in INDIA.
