Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) will be showcasing the electric version of its most widely sold compact car, the i10, at the 2010 Delhi Auto Expo. The company already sells a CNG version of the car. Other Hyundai vehicles running on alternative fuels include CNG and LPG versions of the Santro and the Accent.

The i10 electric is a zero-emission vehicle, and is part of Hyundai’s initiative to create eco-friendly vehicles for the global auto market. The company will also be displaying concept vehicles running on futuristic technology at the Auto Expo.

According to recent media reports, the i10, launched in 2007, has already overtaken the Santro in monthly sales. HMIL sells an average of 12,000 units of the i10 in a month, as against 7,000 units of the Santro. The i10, with its superior technology, is a hit in big cities, while the Santro is being promoted by the company is semi-urban and rural areas.
