Luxury car company BMW India has already sold 1,700 cars this year and looks all set to reach its 2009 sales target of 3,000 units. It had sold 2,908 units in 2008. Exceeding all expectations, the company has grown at 10 per cent in 2009, as against the paltry industry average of 2 per cent. BMW India currently manufactures its highest selling models – the 3 Series and the 5 Series at its Chennai plant, while its other models in the country – the X3, X5 and the 7 Series are imported as Completely Built Units (CBUs). The company’s expansion plans in India include the introduction of the Roadster Z4 sometime soon, and strengthening its distribution network by opening dealerships in tier II cities like Coimbatore, Jaipur, Lucknow and Ludhiana.
