Ford India launched a new variant of its entry level sedan, the Ford Ikon, last week. The ‘Ford Ikon Plus’ comes with extra security features and is available with both petrol and diesel engine options. The car’s price ranges from Rs 5.17 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the petrol version and Rs 5.77 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the diesel version. Mr Nigel Wark, Ford India Executive Director, said that the new variant was a follow up to Ford Ikon iKool, launched last year. He added that the Ikon Plus would offer more style, safety and comfort to customers.
The car’s security features include a remote keyless entry and anti-theft alloy wheel nuts. It comes with leather vinyl seats and 13-inch Hyper silver alloy wheels. A significant entertainment feature is the car’s iPod compatible MP3 player.
The Ikon witnessed a 196 per cent increase in sales in 2009, and was recognized by the JD Power Awards for its ‘Dependability’ and ‘New Vehicle Initial Quality’. Ford India also organised the ‘Ikon 20,000 km Cross-Country Drive’, along with Autocar India, to demonstrate the car’s superior performance and fuel-efficiency.
