Swedish auto company, Volvo, launched a new version of the S80 in India this week, priced at Rs 38.9 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai) and Rs 37 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The new Volvo S80 comes with a 2.4 litre D5 engine, which uses the latest twin-turbo and Piezo high pressure technology. It boasts of a fuel efficiency of 13.09 km/litre, and complies with Euro V emission norms. The car also offers better entertainment and safety features including a dual DVD screen for rear-seat passengers, and an anti-theft personal communicator. Volvo India currently sells two models in the country – the S80 and the XC90, and plans to launch another two – the XC60 and the S60, within a year.
Volvo Auto India Managing Director, Mr Paul De Voijs, told mediapersons that the company would not set up a manufacturing base in the country anytime soon. He said that current sales volumes in the country did not justify setting up a manufacturing plant here. Volvo imports its models in India as Completely Built Units (CBUs).
Meanwhile, the company will soon expand its dealership network to cities like Bangalore, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Goa and Coimbatore. It already has dealerships in Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kochi, Chennai, Chandigarh and Pune.
