SkodaIndia rolls out 50,001st vehicle

SkodaIndia, a fully owned subsidiary of SkodaAuto a.s. of Czech Republic (Volkswagen Group), one of the fastest growing European car manufacturers celebrated the production of 50,001st car today. Present on the occasion were Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh along with Mr. Jean Marie Lagey, Managing Director (Technical), SkodaIndia.
SkodaIndia started its car assembly plant on November 06, 2001, with an initial capacity of 234 cars per year. With increasing demand and growing popularity of Skoda in India, the companies scaled up its production to 40,000 cars per year. Since its inception Skoda has emerged as an inspirational lifestyle brand for its unmatched fuel efficiency, contemporary design and looks. The Company's exciting car, Fabia, is also being manufactured at this plant.
Mr. Jean Marie Lagey, Managing Director (Technical), SkodaIndia said, "This marks the beginning of Skoda's next chapter in India. This accomplishment of 50,001 cars production is not only a testimony of customers trust in the Skoda brand but also a strong vote of confidence in our people, technology, and design innovations. With the increase in the production capacity and the new Fabia launch, the company expects to create employment potential for over 1000 people in the region. The company's greater focus on the quality of its after-sales service, the service network will be expanded to around 65 in 2008.
The Shendra plant has been made to suit the Company's global ambitions, and is among Skoda’s best plants worldwide. The assembly plant is also a key step forward in the Company's goal of achieving annual sales of 27000 cars in India by 2008. This plant is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities across its various shops. The facility helps the Company to attain high quality and superior productivity, while making operations flexible and environment friendly.
