Anand Mahindra appointed Chairman of National Safety Council

Mr. Anand Mahindra, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, Mahindra & Mahindra has been appointed Chairman of the National Safety Council by the Government of India. Mr. Mahindra takes over from Dr. Kumar Mangalam Birla, who led the National Safety Council for over three years. The National Safety Council (NSC) was set up by the Ministry of Labour, Government of India (GOI) in 1966 as an autonomous body to generate, develop and sustain a voluntary movement on Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) at the national level.
Speaking on his appointment, Mr. Anand Mahindra said, “I am honoured to assume the post of Chairman of the National Safety Council, a position which my father had also previously held. With an increasing level of automation at the workplace and all around us, safety has assumed greater importance and organizations such as the NSC go a long way in educating the public about the need to create a safe and healthy atmosphere at work.”
NSC is managed by a Tripartite 51-Member Board of Governors headed by the Chairman, nominated by the Government of India(GOI) and the Director General, the Chief Executive of NSC and Secretary to the Board of Governors, appointed by the GOI on the recommendation of the Board.
About the National Safety Council
The National Safety Council (NSC) was set up by the Ministry of Labour, Government of India (GOI) in 1966, as an autonomous body to generate, develop and sustain a voluntary movement on Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) at the national level. It is an apex nonprofit making, tripartite body, registered under the Societies Registration Act 1860 and the Bombay Public Trust Act 1950.
NSC’s vision is to generate, develop and sustain a voluntary movement on HSE at the National Level aimed at educating and influencing society to adopt appropriate policies, practices and procedures that prevent and mitigate human suffering and economic loss arising from all types of accidents.
