Hyundai Motor India reinforces community development programme

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), the largest exporter and second largest passenger car manufacturer in India, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility program today donated another set of 400 benches and desks to Sriperumbudur Govt. Girls Higher Secondary School. With this Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF), which is the social arm of HMIL, has completed its target of donating 10,000 bench and desks sets to 46 schools in Kancheepuram, Thiruvallur districts and Chennai area.
Hon’ble MLA of Sriperumbudur constituency, Ms D Yasodha, and Mr V Ramana, Chief Education Officer, Kancheepuram were the guests of honour at a function held to commemorate this occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, H. S. Lheem, Managing Director, HMIL said, “We are committed towards collective excellence and believe in the philosophy that one cannot sustain without giving back to society. Under this program over 30,000 students studying in 46 Government schools will benefit directly as we endeavour to improve the conditions of the local schools and colleges and ensure a conducive learning environment.”
Initiated in June 2007, the donation of benches and desks sets was undertaken to improve the required infrastructure and thereby improve the education standards in the schools in Kancheepuram District. HMIF committed an amount of around Rs 1.2 Crores towards this initiative and has received constructive feedback consistently from the beneficiaries. Further on, due to the specific requirements of various schools from neighbourhood, HMIF plans to continue this program by donating another 10,000 sets of benches and desks in near future.
In addition, HMIF, as part of its initiative to ensure health and cleanliness is constructing sanitation facilities at the Govt High School in Tandalam Village which will benefit 1,200 children studying there.
As an automobile manufacturer Hyundai understands its responsibility to give back to the society that drives its sustenance. Under the aegis of HMIF, Hyundai has been constantly striving to address the requirements of society to ameliorate and extend support in the fields of Health Care, Community Development, Educational and Vocational training, Environment, Road Safety, Natural Calamities & Disasters, Art, Science & Culture and Technology.

Health
As a constructive partner in the communities in which it operates, Hyundai has been taking concrete action to realise its social responsibility objectives. Under the “Health for all’ campaign, Hyundai provides ‘Mobile Clinics’ ably supported by doctors to provide treatment and medicines free of cost to the far away villages at an annual operational cost of Rs. 10 Lakh.
Hyundai has also completed the renovation of the District Head Quarters Govt. Hospital at Kancheepuram district with a total budget of Rs. 1.2 Crore.
As part of the “Happy Move Global Youth Volunteers” campaign, Hyundai will be conducting health camps inclusive of education on hygiene for the third time thru a contingent of 250 Korean volunteers/doctors from Korea in the neighbouring villages for a period of 28 days starting July 20, 2009.
Education
Continuing the process of providing quality infrastructure in educational institutes, Hyundai has taken up constructing a hostel for the Government ITI, Ulundurpet, in Villupuram District of Tamil Nadu at a cost of Rs.60 Lakh.
Road Safety
Road safety is of prime concern to Hyundai as an automobile manufacturer. Keeping this in mind, Hyundai joined hands with the city traffic police of New Delhi, Kolkata, and Chennai to launch the Hyundai Traffic Squad. The Student Traffic Squad comprising of 100 volunteers chosen from various colleges monitor and assist the traffic police in road safety. Previously, Hyundai donated 100 Accent Cars to the Chennai City Traffic Police at a cost of Rs.5.2 Crore.
