T-TEP in India is a special training module aimed at enhancing the skill sets and employability of the ITI students in the 15-18 years age group. TTEP aims to support the industrial training institutes in the country to develop highly skilled young talented technicians for the automotive industry and thus increase their profitability. Technical manpower available in India is not trained for repair and diagnostics properly. There is also a high turnover among trained technicians. T-TEP hopes to bridge these gaps by partnering with industrial training institutes and jointly working with its dealers.

“We believe that the partnership with Technical Institutes will enhance the technical prowess of the students and on a macro level will benefit the Indian Auto Industry,” said Mr. Atsushi Toyoshima, Managing Director,Toyota Kirloskar Motor.

TKM has so far partnered with 4 technical training institutes as the first phase of this program last year. And in this year TKM intends to join hands with 6 more technical training institutes making it to a total of 10 institutes.

Apart from being technical institutes of academic repute and offering automotive courses with proper classrooms, practice areas, the institutes selected for participation in T-TEP, should have adequate number of qualified automotive instructors with Government-approved credentials. TTEP curriculum has been synchronized with industrial training institutes syllabus in the 2nd year of the course. In addition to that, on the job training will be provided at the nearby Toyota dealership, twice in a month for a period of 6 months, so students can get a first hand feel of Toyota way of service.

TKM will partner with 20 technical Institutes across the country by 2010 and would be investing approximately Rs 60 million for TTEP implementation in the country. Over 2000 technical institute students will benefit from this programme.

Under this unique technical education program, TKM will partner the institutes by training the instructors of the institute with the latest technology used at Toyota. Additionally, this initiative will provide exposure to the students to the cutting edge technology used in automotive industry. TMC & TKM would fund the project along with providing T-TEP hi-tech training packages and Toyota service training manuals.

The effectiveness of TTEP is widely recognized throughout the world. TTEP has been implemented in 436 institutes across 52 countries include USA, Australia, Italy, South Africa, China and Vietnam.
