2011 Toyota Etios V, Are we buying Etios because it is cheaper?

By Munish (Delhi,Delhi) on May 22, 2011

Toyota wanted to make Etios cheaper but they ended up making a cheap Car. 1)Luxury We buy sedan for social status and the driving comfort and safety of passengers. But in Etios there is no luxury. 2)Comfort High levels of Noise in the passenger cabin from engine. High levels of noise inside the passenger cabin from Road. High levels of Vibration felt at steering, Instrument panel, arm rest, and seats. Petrol engine sounds like Diesel fuel driven vehicle. No speakers in the rear. 3)Performance The weight of the vehicle is only 930Kg. Low mileage irrespective of high performance engine. Low mileage irrespective of light weight body. 4)Safety Higher NVH levels can lead to fatigue and tiredness to passengers. Higher vibration levels can make driver impulsive and lead to accidents. Low weight of vehicle makes it unstable at high speeds. 5) Style The car looks average from the looks and you have to pay to get the radiator chrome grill installed to make it stylish. Toyota can not produce cars below INR 10 Lakh Whenever we talk about the problems being faced in Etios, the dealership people answer that since the price of Etios is kept low Toyota could not provide any luxury feature and even compromised on the material used in making the car. The inteior itself is worth discriminating, the floor mat also looks thinner and of lower grade, the EPDM gaskets are removed from all the four doors. The absence of gasket makes it convenient for insects, cockroaches, ants, spiders and lizards to get inside the vehicle as soon as the door is opened. The interior area of the cabin trapped between the frame and door is always dirty even though the vehicle is cleaned from outside. After spending a hefty 7.5Lakh plus the Etios is not able to deliver the Comfort, luxury and the pride that comes with the brand. Etios model V and VX are disasters and there is hardly any significant luxury parameter to distinguish the two variants. Etios fails to impress because of noise and vibrations from the engine caused due to poor quality of the engine and further reduction in the dampers used to suppress the sound and vibrations emanating from the Engine. Are we buying Etios because it is cheaper? No certainly not. We are buying because of the brand and trust associated with Toyota. Toyota has made Etios Cheap in Quality in an attempt to make it Cheaper. The cost cutting is very much evident as no Luxury feature is present in the car and even the basics of designing a good vehicle have been ignore by compromising in using good quality material to make the interior passenger cabin comfortable and vibration free. In an attempt to reduce price the gaskets are also removed In Etios which makes the dust and dirt trapped in between the door and body and also make room for lizards, insects, cockroaches etc.

2011 Toyota Etios V, car for the upwardly mobile

By stanbul (nagpur) on Jan 27, 2011

Great car with great performance backed by Toyota quality and reliability. Good pickup with easy maneuverability. Ground clearance adequate for worst of road conditions. Aircon okay in this winter season, will need to test Indian summers. Roomy for 5 passengers.

2011 Toyota Etios V, Etios is the worst Engineered product from Toyota in India

By Munish (New Delhi) on Apr 19, 2011

Toyota Etios is a roaring Lion and moves like a camel. I have got my Etios in February 2011 and driven for than 1400 km, I have not at all enjoyed my Etios. The vehicle produces extraordinary vibration at idle conditions and the road noise creates nuisance and headache while driving, the cabin receives lot of engine nose as well which is very frustating and annoying while driving. I would caution readers that please do not get influenced by the rosy Etios reviews, everyone must test drive the vehicle and take feedback from their friends before buying Etios from their hard earned money. I would also caution that before buying Etios do not get influenced by the brand Toyota looking at the performance of other vehicles. Please rate Etios irrespective of Toyota and you will not be convinced to buy Etios. After waiting for almost a year for the Etios, I am very disappointed with the performance. Etios will become the black spot in Toyota history if the voice of customer is not heard by Toyota. Etios reflects the overcofidence of Toyota Engineers.

2012 Toyota Etios GD SP, stripped down corolla

By jassimran (ludhiana) on Jan 01, 2012

I have just bought a new Etios gd sp and i think my decision is appropriate to what were my needs. I would like to review this car because it has impressed me a lot.I have a Toyota Innova ,Honda Civic, Maruti Ritz and the latest addition in my fleet is Etios. Initially I was out to buy Liva when my wife and dad insisted me on buying the sedan version. First of all this car is not meant for people who prefer fancy and gadgetry loaded cars like the all new Verna. This is one sophisticated product from Toyota and I think it as a pared down corolla. One thing everyone questions is, the interiors of the car? true, they are not as luxurious as the competition but they are solidly built to the price. It is very spacious on the inside and it has the biggest boot in its class. Second the looks of the car? the looks slowly catches your fancy. You start liking the car and feel that the design is quite sombre and it will age well. Now the main aspect of owing a diesel car(running costs). I must tell you that every penny spent extra on this diesel version is worth it. The car is closing to 21 km per litre in 70% of the vehicle being driven in the city. I am so amazed because my Ritz gives me just 17 km on a litre of diesel. One more point I would like to discuss is that the motor is not at all underpowered and is very tractable but sounds very agricultural. The steering is very light to manouvre in the city and weighs up as the speeds build up on the highway. I would recommend people to go for this car if the budget is this side of 10 lakh rupees.

2011 Toyota Etios G SP, DO NOT BUY - VERY SIMPLE!!!!!

By Dipak (Mumbai, Maharashtra) on Sep 10, 2011

DO NOT BUY. Repeat again DO NOT BUY. Other must have said enough about poor quality of interiors, features like DIS Driver Information System which every other sedan offers nowadays is missing, no engine temp meter etc etc. But wait I am not going to talk about those things. 1. Excessive engine noise coming into passenger cabin and this happens even while you accelerate 2. Noise and vibration while driving in first and reverse gears. 3. poor pick up in second gear, you have to shift to first ,no chance 4. Beware of hitting boot end while climbing or if you do not slow down ,slow enough to be in first gear at speed breaker. I had been experiencing this every day especially when the car has all five occupants. Now since I learned this,I ask my two friends to get down at my office main gate where a little steep climb is there. I took loan from HDFC BANK at 11.11 rate and now i regret my decision. I have written a strong worded letter MD of Kirloskar Toyota and awaiting their response. I they do nOt respond before 15th Sept and I am planning to drag them to Consumer court. Please don not forget my first line of this comment which I am repeating again. DO NOT BUY OR RECOMMEND TO ANY ONE.

2011 Toyota Etios VX, Good Car

By SC Puri (Noida) on Jan 28, 2012

The car gives a comfortable ride, highway fuel economy is good, powerful car with great pick up, city also I find much more economical than my present Hyundai. It is a good value for money; the service is excellent; further the car has spacious interiors, a good stereo, excellent air conditioning system. Has a large boot space. Further easy to drive with good visibility and control at high speeds.

2010 Toyota Etios VX, Toyota Etios Review

By automate (,) on Jan 07, 2011

Toyota till now had been a niche player in India with its all its passenger cars catering to the higher class of the society. That had been their strategy in India and every other country they were present till date. But they soon realized that in India, the fastest growing passenger car market, it was just not enough to have models catering to the elite, as every other car sold is either a hatch or an entry level sedan. To make their presence felt in India, they had to come down to the mass market, making cars for the common man in India. It was something they had never done before, not only in India, but anywhere else.

     2011 Toyota Etios V, Guzzler!

By Harish Shah (Mumbai , Maarashtra) on Oct 15, 2012

I purchased one Toyota Etios (V) model car from Madhuban Toyota in Mumbai in July 2011. Since the day of purchase, till now (October 2012) I have used the car over 8000 kms. This car is perhaps the worst car I have purchased in my life. The approximate fuel consumption in city driving is 6 KMPL!, on the highway and expressway it does better at 11.5 KMPL. This is an extremely far cry from the claimed efficiency of 17kmpl as certified by ARAI, and way below Toyota claim of 12kmpl (city) and 18 kmpl (Highway). I have repeatedly complained to Madhuban, and Toyota India. They have checked and verified the vehicle several times and have given me reports that my vehicle is in perfect condition. On the basis of their trials, they have reportedly obtained over 18kmpl on Mumbai highway, and, 12 kmpl in city driving. I would like to know from other Etios owners as to whether they are achieving milage as claimed by Toyota, in city driving conditions, or is my car the only sample which is performing so poorly.

2011 Toyota Etios G, Toyota Etion G Self driving experiance

By Sibsankar Banerjee (Kolkata,West Bengal) on Nov 02, 2012

I purchased Etios G Petrol variant on Jan, 2011. This car is self driven, and my observation is 1. Noisy Cabin [Enging and Road noise are louder than other cars in same bracket] 2. Fuel efficiency not exceptional - I get 11 KMPL in City, and 14.5 in highwar - Without AC 3. Control and handling is quite good. 4. Suspension is also good. 5. Space is excellent. 6. Complete Sedan type car, and nice to look at. Overall package is quite good considering the price bracket. All basic and required features are available even in "G" variant. Driving this car for over 1 and 1/2 year, I can say that I had taken correct decision to purchase a Toyota Etios "G" variant, which I could afford at that point of time.
