The Maruti Suzuki Estilo was brought in as a replacement for the Zen, which was a very good hatch in its day. The Estilo is a more modern interpretation of the Zen as it now comes with more spacious interiors, more modern exterior design and a better and more refined engine under the K Series banner.
The Estilo is a proper 5-door hatchback that competes in the B Segment of small entry-level hatches such as the Chevrolet Spark, Hyundai Eon and Honda Brio. The Estilo comes in three different trim levels but all of them feature the same 1 litre engine. There is also a CNG version of the car available.
The overall exterior design of the Estilo is decent as it features smooth lines with an aerodynamic feel. There is a rich chrome front grille, a creased hood, nice looking head lamps as well as fog lamps to give the car a good feel.
The interiors of the Estilo are a step up from the Maruti Alto. There is a dual tone interior layout that looks nice and there is also a nice instrument cluster that is a lot more modern. There is also lots of head room for all passengers and the front passengers also get very good spacious interiors.
The rear seat passengers would find the leg room to be a little less but the occupants knees are get ample space. There is a decent boot space as well and a few storage compartments. Overall the interiors are very decent.
The engine found in the Estilo is found in many other Maruti cars. It is the famed K Series engine which is a 998cc petrol 3-cylinder engine that can produce 68bhp and 90Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a very nice 5-speed transmission that works well.
The overall performance of the Estilo is very good. Because the car is light at just 845 kg, the 68bhp is enough for you to feel the car accelerate. The overall ride quality is also very decent and the car takes on bumpy roads without too much of a problem, which means its suspension setup is very good. The car comes with power steering and a comfortable steering wheel with good response so it fairly easy to handle. The 5-speed gearbox also works well and the clutch is not to light and the gear changes are smooth.
The K series engine is very well refined and so the fuel economy of the Estilo is very decent and you can expect to get around 16kmpl. With the CNG variant you can get around 25kmpl.
The Estilo has got a few features that you can look forward to. Something that is a must today is power steering and power windows, however the base variant comes with neither, but the top variants do get these features. Other features include remote keyless entry, air conditioning and central locking. There is also provision for speakers but you must buy your own system.
The Estilo also comes with decent safety features. The Estilo gets ABS and SRS airbag as well as front and rear fog lamps.
The overall quality of the components and parts of the Estilo is not the best and this is evident in the interiors. However it is a huge step forward as this entry level hatch comes with decent features and decent seats and instrument cluster. The engine is very well refined and the ride quality is good. Overall the car is reliable ad a decent performer. Once again with Maruti Suzuki you won’t have too much trouble finding parts or getting servicing and the Estilo is known to last long.
In terms of value for money the Estilo is a good bargain. It is an entry-level hatch that has a very good price tag much lower than its competitors and offers you essentially the same package.
The Estilo has got a good engine, with a decent fuel economy and decent interior space on a modern looking body. The only drawback is that it’s not fun to drive as it can be a little tame. We can’t seem to find any problems with this car actually. If it fits in your budget, it’s probably the best buy.
