The Maruti Ritz has, in a number of ways, redefined engine technology in India. The first BS IV compliant passenger car in the country, it also comes loaded with an array of safety features. The Maruti Ritz comes with a brand new 1.2 litre K12 petrol engine and a 1.3 litre diesel engine, both offering optimum performance and fuel efficiency. The petrol unit has a very decent maximum power output of 85bhp and a maximum torque of 113Nm, while the diesel unit creates 75bhp and 190Nm of torque. Like all the other K Series engines, the petrol versions of the Ritz boast a healthy fuel economy of 15kmpl, while the diesel variants claim 18kmpl. The car is light and compact and handles brilliantly on Indian roads.

Quality & Reliability
The Ritz is the Indian version of the Suzuki Splash and it is quite the car. The Ritz is slotted right below the Swift but it falls in the same segment. The Ritz initially came with a petrol engine but now it also comes with a diesel engine and there is also an automatic variant.
The Ritz was very well received in the Indian market when it was first launched and now in its refreshed version and the addition of the diesel engine it could very well repeat its success story.
The Ritz is small hatch back but it does come with a very modern style and exterior design. It’s got nice lines and an attractive front section with sharp stretched back head lights and a decent front grille. The front bumper and grille look sporty and the wheel arches also add a more aggressive stance to the car. The tyres are of a good size and there are also alloy wheels. Overall it is a good looking hatch.
The interiors of the Ritz are also very good and the dashboard and instrument panel are very contemporary and of good design. The seats are also comfortable and there is lots of space in the front and the rear. There is lots of headroom but there is less legroom in the rear, and the boot is also quite small. There are plenty of storage compartments and panels and the overall quality of the interiors is nice.
The A Star comes with two engine variants. The petrol engine features a 1.2 litre 4 cylinder K12B engine. It is very well refined and can create a very healthy power output of 85bhp and 113 Nm of torque. The diesel engine on the other hand has been borrowed over from Fiat and it features the 1.3 litre Multijet diesel engine that produces 75bhp and 190Nm of torque. Both the petrol and the diesel engine are mated to a 5-speed manual transmission that works well with both engine variants. The petrol variant however also comes with a 4-speed automatic CVT transmission.
The Ritz is one of the most practical hatchbacks from Maruti. The petrol engine is very well refined and performs extremely well. In the manual version the performance is very good as the acceleration is smooth and linear. The ride quality is also brilliant and the car is very stable on the road. The diesel engine is borrowed from Fiat and is also very well refined but it does lack the ‘oomph’ in terms of acceleration and there is a small lag from the accelerator. The ride quality is also very good. The manual transmission works very well with both engines. The automatic variant in the petrol engine does have late gear shifts though. The brakes also work well and the steering response is very good. The car is a great overall city performer.
The petrol variant is very decent with a fuel economy of almost 15kmpl and the diesel variant gives almost 19kmpl. Those are very good figures for a good performing hatch.
The Ritz comes with power steering with tilt adjustment, power windows and air-conditioning with automatic climate control. It also comes with an integrated music player.
The Ritz also comes with Airbags, ABS with EBD, Brake Assist and rear defogger.
The Ritz is made up of very good quality materials for a car of this segment and you can notice this in the interior quality especially. All the panels and plastics are placed we and the finishing is very good. The engines are built very well and all the components in the car work very well. The car can be very reliable and with Maruti Suzuki backing service and components is never a problem.
The Ritz competes in a very competitive segment with many competitors such as the Hyundai i10, Honda Brio and Maruti’s very own Swift. The Ritz is a good performer and it comes at a very good price. It is definitely worth every penny spent.
If you are looking for a car that is a good performer that drives like an entry level sedan but doesn’t have the space, then the Ritz is the car for you. It is priced very well and it also looks good. The fact that it also comes with a diesel variant and an automatic means you will be spoilt for choice and can better decide which one you need.
