Rolls Royce is a British manufacturer of cars and was founded by Charles Stewart Rolls and Henry Royce on 15 March 1906. Rolls Royce was hurt by the development of the RB211 engine. The car division separated from the parent company as Rolls-Royce Motors. Rolls Royce is a leader of power systems and services for use on land at sea and in the air and had established its position in civil aerospace, defence aerospace, marine and energy and nuclear.
The civil aerospace business gets 30 types of commercial aircraft and has a strong position in the market. Rolls Royce is also the world’s second largest provider of defence aero engine products and services with 18,000 engines in service for 160 customers.
In Marine, Rolls Royce is the leader in integration of technology, merchant and naval vessels. They have more than 2,500 marine customers.
The energy business supplies gas turbines, compressors and diesel power units to customers around the world.
Rolls-Royce was started by Henry Royce in 1884. Royce met in 1904 with Charles Rolls and built his first motor car. Charles Rolls’ company sold quality cars in London.
Agreement was reached that Royce Limited CS Rolls & Co would manufacture cars - they were to bear the name Rolls-Royce.
The success with the cars led to the formation of the Rolls-Royce March 1906 and to the launch of the six-cylinder Silver Ghost a year later.
At the start of the First World War, Royce designed his first aero engine - the Eagle, providing some half of the total horsepower used in the air war by the allies.
The Eagle powered the first direct transatlantic flight as well as the first flight from England to Australia - both in the Vickers Vimy aircraft.
In the late 1920s, Rolls-Royce produced the 'R' engine to power Britain's entry in the International Schneider Trophy championship. The car ran at 400mph in 1931.
It established new world records on both land and water. More importantly, as subsequent events were to prove, it gave Rolls-Royce the technological base to develop the Merlin, which Royce has begun to work on before his death in 1933.
The Merlin powered the Hawker Hurricane and Supermarine Spitfire in the Battle of Britain. Demand for the Merlin during the Second World War transformed Rolls-Royce from a relatively small company into a major contender in aero propulsion.
Rolls-Royce began producing the aero gas turbine, pioneered by Sir Frank Whittle.
The Welland engine entered service in the Gloster Meteor fighter in 1944 and Rolls-Royce had the confidence immediately after the war to commit itself to the gas turbine, in which it had a technological lead.
Charles Rolls was a motoring and aviation pioneer. He co founded the Rolls Royce car manufacturing firm. He was killed in Briton in an accident at the age of 32. He was born as the son of Baron Llangattock. He attended Mortimer Vicarage Prepartory School in Berkshire and was educated at Eton College where his developing interest in engines developed.
He studied at the Trinity College in Cambridge Mechanical and Applied Science. He traveled to Paris to buy his first car, a Peugeot Phaeton and joined the Automobile Club of France. He joined the Self-Propelled Traffic Association which campaigned against restrictions He graduated from Cambridge in 1898.
Rolls was introduced to Henry Royce who showed him Royce’s car and arranged a meeting between them. Rolls was impressed by the car. In 1906 Rolls and Royce formalised their partnership by creating Rolls-Royce Limited, with Rolls appointed Technical Managing Director on a salary of £750 per annum plus 4% of the profits in excess of £10,000. Rolls provided the financial backing and business acumen to complement Royce's technical expertise. In 1907 Rolls-Royce Limited bought out C.S. Rolls & Co.They both signed an agreemet on 23 December 1904. Rolls traveled in 1906 to promote the new cars.

John Rishton is the Chief Executive Officer of Rolls Royce succeeduing Sir John Rose. He was the Non-Exective Director of Rolls-Royce in 2007. He served as the Chairman of the Audi Committee. Before joining Rolls Royce John was the CEO of Royal Ahold for six years. He began his career in 1979 with Ford Motor Company. He is 53 years old.
Mike Terrett is the Chief Operating Office of Rolls Royce since 2007. Prior to joining Rolls Royce as the COO, he was the President of Civil Aerospace, responsible for the strategy of that business. He was the President and CEO of International Aero Engines (IAE) based in Conneticut. He graduated from the University of Durham.
Andrew Shilston joined Rolls Royce in 2002 and became the Finance Director. He was the Finance Director of Enterprise Oil. He attended Oxford University and received an MA in Engineering Science. He also trained as an accountant before joining BP as a financial analyst.
Colin Smith was the appointed Director of Engineering Technology in 2005 when he became a member of the Board of Rolls Royce. Colin is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering. He is also the Chairman of the Rolls-Royce Heritage Trust.
James Guyette is the President and Chief Executive Officer at Rolls Royce North America. He oversees all Rolls Royce companies and business units in North America in 66 locations throughout the US and Canada. Guyette received a BS in Business Administration from Saint Mary’s College, Moraga California. He serves on the Board of Regents for the College and was named the Alumnus of the Year.
Tim Rayner is the Company Secretary and General Counsel of Rolls Royce. He was educated at the Rossall School, Fleetwood and King’s College, London where he read law and qualified as a solicitor in 1985.
Rolls-Royce said that it was going to increase its production at the company’s manufacturing plant in Goodwood, West Sussex, England according to the company.
It is building 15 cars per day including Phantom and Ghost models with over 300 cars built in June 2010. All models were sold till September 2010.
Sales in June 2010 increased 400% worldwide and in the first half of the year were up by 200% compared to the same period in 2009. Growth was seen in areas like the APAC especially China.
The production capacity of the Goodwood plant is about 100 units of the Phantom and the Drophead Coupe. The number of employees at the plant is 650 and Rolls-Royce will recruit another 300-400 workers and invest 10 to 15 million pounds in the Goodwood plant.
They are handmade and handcrafted. The cars have an automatic door closer, automatic air conditioning system, 16 speakers and IPod docking system and 2 sub woofers. They have almost the same technology in all cars. These are V12 engines.
Rolls-Royce Ghost received the Red-Dot Best of the Best Award for the highest level of design. Ghost has Yacht Line styling. Large, uninterrupted surfaces flow between finely sculpted horizontal lines that provide definition, highlighting the solid, luxurious and supreme character of the vehicle. Red Dot is one of the most important awards for product design. It was awarded in 1955 first and recognizes design work in the category of automobiles, architecture, fashion and medicine, to name a few. Other winners are the Rolls-Royce Phantom which won the award in 2008.
Rolls Royce won the award for the Enviroship Concept. The ship design is for a short sea general cargo vessel which has high efficient gas power and a propulsion system to provide reduction in emissions. This was recognized by the maritime industry for the development of efficient fuel designs. The concept is being applied to ship tyres and passenger vehicles as well as product tankers, LNG/LPG tankers, bunkering vessels and super yachts.
In terms of giving away awards, Rolls Royce has the Science Prize Awards. The 2009 awards were won by Kells Lane Primary school, Gateshead. Long Road Sixth Form College is 2009 year’s runner up school. Dr. Laura Grant, TV Presenter and Research Fellow took the duty of the MC for this event. Long Road Sixth Form College received a second award during the evening from Tim Smit, Chief Executive and co-founder of the Eden Project. The keynote speaker for the event was Chris Rapley, Director of the Science Museum.
Motor cars has been sold to BMW.
They don’t export car from India to other countries.
There were many that were shipped to Saudi Arabia, The United Arab Emirates, Muscat and Oman. There are Rolls Royce in Jordan and Israel, South Africa and Uganda, Russia and Tibet. Just about every country in the world has at least one. Far more cars were exported than were kept in Britain.
Currently they have Phantom and Ghost, there’s a Rolls Royce Coupe, and an extended wheelbase Phantom - little longer in the length. They are not disclosing their future plans.
