Skoda is an automobile manufacturer based in the Czech Republic that started operations as far back as the 1890s. They started as a repair shop but soon started producing motorcycles and have for long been hailed as the creator of the motorcycle. During the war, like many other car makers Skoda started producing cars and trucks. Skoda became a wholly owned subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group in 2000 and a year later, Skoda Auto India Private Limited was established in November 2001, and is a fully owned subsidiary of the Czech car manufacturer Skoda Auto and a division of Volkswagen Group Sales India.
Skoda is known to produce cars with great quality, performance, comfort, efficiency, technological innovation and offer a wonderful driving experience. The first car launch was the Octavia which did very well in the premium segment. The success of this lead to more product launches but the company also grew a reputation of producing cars that were expensive to own and maintain. The company has grown itself and now has a vast dealer network across the country and a modest market share. Skoda India provides entry level luxury vehicles to the Indian customer and has an industry average re-sale value on its products.
