Skoda India unveils compact SUV Yeti

Skoda Auto unveiled its much talked-about compact SUV, the Skoda Yeti, at the 2010 Auto Expo in Delhi this week. The Yeti will be Skoda's fifth model to be launched in India, and has the potential of 'having a cult following', according to Skoda India Board Member, Mr Thomas Kuehl. The vehicle is attractively styled, with a ribbed grille, sturdy flanks and distinctive wings. Its 4X4 variants give it remarkable off-roading capabilities and traction.

Hyundai unveils i10 electric at 2010 India Auto Expo

Hyundai India unveiled the electric version of its compact car, the i10, at the 2010 Auto Expo in Delhi this week. The zero-emission car was first showcased at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2009. It is powered by a 49 kWh electric motor and a 16kWh battery. The car uses advanced Lithium-Ion-Polymer (LiPoly) technology which gives it a driving range of 160 km on a single charge. Hyundai's theme at the Auto Expo is 'Trust and Innovation'.

Fiat displays new variants of Grande Punto, Linea and Fiat 500 at 2010 Auto Expo

Italian car company Fiat showcased six new variants of its existing models at the 2010 India Auto Expo this week. These are the Fiat 500 by Diesel, the Linea Dualogic Transmission, the Linea T-Jet, the Grande Punto Natural Power, the Grande Punto Sports and the Grande Punto Trendz. The company's showstopper at the show is the Fiat 500 by Diesel (the denim brand), designed by Italy's famous haute couture designer, Renzo Rosso. The Grande Punto Nautural Power is an eco-friendly variant of the Punto, which sports a bi-fuel engine (petrol/CNG) with minimal CO2 emissions.

Volkswagen unveils Polo, Phaeton at 2010 India Auto Expo

German auto major Volkswagen (VW) this week unveiled its made-in-India small car, the Polo, at the 2010 India Auto Expo. The Polo hatchback will be available at VW dealerships from March this year and will come with a 1.2 litre engine with 50 per cent localization. The company also showcased its luxury car, the Phaeton, at the Auto Expo. The car will be launched in the country in March 2010, and will be priced at approximately Rs 75 lakh.

BMW launches three new models in India

BMW India this week launched three new models in the country - the BMW Gran Turismo, Sports Activity Coupe BMW X6 M and the BMW 760Li, priced at Rs 63 lakh, Rs 1.30 crore 1.29 crore respectively. BMW India President, Mr Peter Kronschnabl, told mediapersons at the 2010 Delhi Auto Expo that the company is planning further capital investment in the country to increase the production capacity at its Chennai plant and expand its financial services business in India.

Chevrolet Beat launched in India

General Motors India this week launched its much-awaited small car, the Chevrolet Beat. The Beat comes with a 1.2 litre petrol engine and will be available in three variants, priced between Rs 3.34 lakh and Rs 3.94 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). A diesel version of the car will be launched later this year. GM India President and Managing Director, Karl Slym, said that the new car's design, safety features and performance are the best in its segment and that it will be a winner among consumers.

Arvind Saxena promoted as Hyundai India full-time Director

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) last week promoted Mr Arvind Saxena to the post of a full-time Director of the company, with a seat on its board. Saxena had joined HMIL in 2005 as Vice Presient, Sales and Marketing, and was made Senior Vice President in 2008. He has made significant contributions to HMIL's growth and consolidation in India. As a Director of the company, he will be expected look after its sales, marketing and service initiatives.
