SkodaAuto India wins 8 auto awards

SkodaAuto India recently won eight awards for its cars Skoda Laura and Skoda Superb at 6 different award ceremonies. The Laura won 'Best Variant of the Year' and 'Midsize Car of the Year' awards, while the Superb won 5 awards, including 'Best Sedan of the Year' and 'Executive Car of the Year'. Skoda is hoping to increase its sales in India to 20,000 units in 2010. Mr Thomas Kuehl, Board Member, SkodaAuto India, said that the company would use the concept of boutique showrooms to 'bring customers closer to the brand'.

Honda Jazz being offered at discounted prices for stock clearance

Dealers of premium hatchback Honda Jazz are offering the car at discounted prices to clear stocks. Stocks of the 2009 version of the car have still not been cleared, leading dealers to offer discounts of up to Rs 40,000 on it, along with lower interest rates. Honda Siel itself, however, does not intend to lower the car's price. It produced 1,066 units of the Jazz in December 2009, only 269 of which were sold.

Mercedes-Benz India launches 2 new variants of E-Class

Luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz India this week launched two new variants of the E-Class. The E250 V6, which comes with a top speed of 250 km/hr and a 245 NM torque, is priced at Rs 41.13 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai). The E250 CDI (Blue Efficiency) comes with a 2143cc engine and is priced at Rs 39.87 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai). By introducing the new variants, Mercedes-Benz has brought down the starting price of the E-Class substantially. The car's price range started at Rs 47 lakh earlier.

Hyundai India to hike car prices by up to 1.5 percent from Feb 2010

Close on the heels of price hikes by competitors Maruki Suzuki and Tata Motors, Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) too has announced a 1-1.5 percent increase in model prices starting from February 1, 2010. The company said that it would hike prices by up to Rs 9,000, but did not give details of the quantum of increase for each of its models. After February, car prices are likely to be pushed up further in March, following product upgradation to comply with BS-IV norms.
