Hero Honda may set up new manufacturing plant in Gujarat
India's leading two-wheeler company, Hero Honda, may set up its fourth manufacturing facility in the country in Gujarat. At present, the company has manufacturing plants in Dharuhera, Gurgaon and Haridwar. A team of executives from Hero Honda recently met Gujarat Government officials regarding the matter, and have asked the government to suggest locations for the plant. So far, two major locations have been formally suggested to the company - one in Sanand and the other in Vadodara district.

Skoda opens dealership in Jaipur; displays several models at Chandigarh Auto Mall
Czech car company, Skoda,
opened a new showroom in Jaipur this week, taking its total number of authorized dealerships in the country to 65. The new dealership, Saga Automotive India Pvt Ltd, can service up to 35 cars everyday. Meanwhile, the company participated in the Relio Quick Auto Mall 2010 in Chandigarh recently, where it displayed a range of models including the all new Skoda Superb, the new Skoda Laura and the Superhatch Skoda Fabia.

Ford India to focus on upcoming small-car Figo, will discontinue Fusion
Ford India
is planning to discontinue the sale of its hatchback model, the Fusion, after the launch of the Figo next month. The production of the Figo, designed specifically for the Indian market, began at Ford's Chennai plant on February 5, 2010. Ford India President and Managing Director, Mr Michael Boneham, told mediapersons that the company's focus in the small car segment would be exclusively on the Figo in the Indian market. He added that the Fusion's sales volume in the country was relatively small.

Tata Motors hires Carl-Peter Forster as new group CEO
Tata Motors
appointed former General Motors head, Mr Carl-Peters Forster, as its Chief Executive Officer this week. Fifty-five-year old Forster has worked in the auto industry for 24 years, and was with German luxury car-maker, BMW,
for 13 years before he joined GM in 2001. As Tata Motors' CEO, Forster's responsibilities will include looking after the operations of Britain-based marquee brands Jaguar and Land Rover. He will report to the Group Chairman, Mr Ratan Tata.

Toyota may recall Corolla due to steering glitch
Toyota Motor Corp may have to recall one its most popular cars, the Corolla subcompact, if the glitch in the car's power-steering is found to be serious. The company has been checking the car for steering problems after receiving a slew of complaints from customers. Meanwhile, Toyota Motor President, Akio Toyoda, has decided not to attend the US Congressional hearing on the recent car recalls announced by the company. Toyoda said he trusted Toyota's US officials to answer all the questions that would be posed to them.

Porsche to unveil new Panamera, Panamera 4 at Beijing Motor Show
Luxury sports-car maker, Porsche AG, will be unveiling the new, entry-level
Panamera and Panamera 4 models at the Beijing Motor Show in April 2010. Both the models are powered by a new 3.6 litre, V6 engine, with Direct Fuel Injection technology, and comply with the Euro V emission norms. They can run 100 kilometres on less than 10 litres of fuel. The cars will be launched globally in May 2010, and will enter the Indian market in June 2010.
