Auto component maker Bosch announces shut-down of Bangalore facility
German auto component maker, Bosch, closed down its production plant at Naganathpura, near Bangalore after workers attacked a company officer during a strike to demand wage revision. Bosch produces starters, generators, spark plugs and alternators at the Naganathpura plant, and has already lost a Rs 30-crore order from Maruti Suzuki because of the shut-down. Officials at the company say that the lockout was necessary to ensure the safety of employees, machinery and other installations.

Ford India launches compact car Figo at Rs 3.5 lakh
Ford India launched its first compact car in the country, the Ford Figo, this week. Priced at Rs 3.49 – Rs 4.42 lakh for the petrol version, and Rs 4.47 – Rs 5.29 lakh for the diesel version, the Figo will compete with a host of other cars in the segment including the Chevrolet Beat, the Maruti Ritz, and the Hyundai i10. The car offers a number of ‘intelligent’ features like a Bluetooth Phone Interface with audio streaming, speed-sensing volume controls, rapid deceleration warning and 6-speed wipers.

Honda Siel launches special edition Jazz at Rs 7.21 lakh
Honda Siel Cars India
(HSCI) launched a ‘Select Edition’ version of its premium hatchback, the Honda Jazz, this week. Priced at Rs 7.21 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the special edition Jazz has been launched to commemorate the ‘Car of the Year’ award that it won at the NDTV Profit – Car India and Bike India Awards 2010. The car comes with several additional features including a rear parcel shelf, front and rear mud guards and alloy wheels. It will be available at Honda showrooms across the country from next week.

Hyundai organizes ‘Miles and Smiles Rally 2010’ in Ahmedabad
Hyundai Motor India Limited
(HMIL) organised a 77-kilometre car rally – the ‘Miles and Smiles Rally 2010’ – in Ahmedabad last week. As many as 80 Hyundai i10 owners participated in the rally, which was sponsored by the Indian Oil Corporation Limited and Wynn’s Mekuba (as associate sponsor). The ‘Miles and Smiles Rally’ is an initiative by Hyundai to engage and educate its customers about better car maintenance and the benefits of fuel-efficient driving, said Mr Arvind Saxena, Director, Marketing & Sales, HMIL.

Hero Honda launches special edition of ‘Pleasure’ scooter on Women’s Day
India’s largest two-wheeler company, Hero Honda, launched a special edition version of its popular scooter, ‘Pleasure’, to celebrate the International Women’s Day this week. The special edition Pleasure is available in a ‘pearl white’ colour with a blast of red and is priced at Rs 37,250 (ex-showroom, Delhi). It comes with attractive new features like distinctive body graphics, a new elliptical meter console, a red muffler cover, and a white body-coloured rear grip.
