BMW India to kick off pre-owned car business in April 2010
BMW India will open its first pre-owned car showroom in Chennai next month, followed by another in Gurgaon in the second half of 2010. Mr Peter Kronschnabl, President of BMW India, said that the company would eventually extend its used car business - BMW Premium Selection - to all major cities in India. Under the new venture, pre-owned cars will be selected for resale after a thorough inspection by BMW engineers and technicians, and will be sold on warranty.

JLR to establish component-sourcing base in Pune
Tata Motors-owned luxury car maker, Jaguar-Land Rover
(JLR), will be setting up an office in Pune next month to source components from Indian vendors. The move is a part of the company's larger plan to cut costs and increase profits. The initial focus of the Pune office, to be operational from April 1, 2010, will be on acquiring components for Land Rover vehicles.
According to media reports, the JLR team in charge of sourcing from India will work with selected vendors to develop components from scratch, without compromising on quality.

Delhi HC dismisses Toyota's petition on Prius trademark
Toyota Motor's petition to the Delhi High Court asking for a restraint on Delhi-based 'Prius Auto Industries' from using the trademark 'Prius' was dismissed last week. Prius Auto manufactures vehicle components and has been in the business for over 6 years now, with bulk orders from companies like Mahindra & Mahindra, GM and Hyundai. The Court held that there was no evidence against the local company, which would suffer irreparable loss if it was stopped from using the 'Prius' trademark.

Auto industry asks Govt to defer implementation of BS III, IV norms
The Indian Government may have to defer the implementation of Bharat Stage III and Bharat Stage IV norms in the country because of the unavailability of required fuel. The deadline for the switch to the new norms is April 1, 2010. Mr Pawan Goenka, President of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), told mediapersons last week that the industry had requested the Government to defer the April 1 deadline till the required fuel reached the market.

GM to recall 59,000 vehicles in South Korea
The South Korean unit of General Motors
has announced the recall of close to 59,000 units of the Chevrolet Captiva
and the Chevrolet Cruze, to correct a fault in the steering wheels of the vehicles. The recall includes 45,957 units of the Captiva, manufactured between April 1, 2006 and December 31, 2007 and 12,604 units of the Cruze, manufactured between September 25, 2009 and March 2, 2010. The company did not provide details of the recall costs.
