Nissan kicks off 'exposure marketing' campaign to promote Micra

Nissan India has launched an 'exposure marketing' campaign in the country to create awareness about its upcoming small car, the Micra. Under the campaign, which will continue till December 2010, the company will organise a two-day interactive programme at a high footfall spot in a key city every weekend. Nissan has also created a micro-site - http://nissanmicra.co.in - to help prospective customers get first-hand information on the car, scheduled to be launched in July 2010.

Mitsubishi launches Outlander 2010 in India

Hindustan Motors-Mitsubishi launched a new version of the Outlander last week. The Outlander 2010 comes with a BS-IV compliant 2.4-litre MIVEC engine, and is priced at Rs 19.5 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). It is equipped with a theft-protection device, alloy brakes and clutch control. The company is also planning to launch its Evolution series and a new variant of the Pajero by the end of FY 2010-11.

Mercedes-Benz on number-one spot again; overtakes BMW India in sales

Mercedes-Benz India has overtaken rival BMW by posting higher sales in the January-April 2010 period. According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Mercedes sold 1,644 units in the first four months of 2010, compared to BMW's 1,621 units. In calendar-year 2009, BMW had for the first time dethroned Mercedes as the leading luxury-car company in India, by selling 3,619 units as against the latter's 3,247 units.

Maruti Suzuki asks vendors to cut component costs by 3 percent

Market leader Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has asked its vendors to reduce component costs by 3 percent. If such a deal works out, Maruti will end up saving approximately Rs 700 crore in an year. MSIL Chairman, Mr RC Bhargava, told reporters that if component costs were reduced but raw material prices kept increasing, the savings from cost reduction would be negated. On the other hand, if vendors did not reduce prices and raw materials were to get costlier, then the company would have to hike car prices.

Car sales in India increase by 39 percent in April 2010

Car sales in India increased from 103,227 units in April 2009 to 143,976 units in April 2010 - a change of 39 percent - according to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). This is the steepest sales increase in the country since April 1999, when car sales rose by 50 percent. According to industry analysts, the high sales-growth in April, which is traditionally a month of relative slowdown, can be attributed to new launches, stable loan rates and positive consumer sentiment.
