Bentley launches Continental Supersports in India at Rs 2.25 crore
UK-based luxury car company, Bentley, launched the Continental Supersports in India this month. Priced at Rs 2.25 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi), the two-seater can run on both petrol and bio-fuel. Bentley had earlier said that it would launch two new models in India this year. Exclusive Motors Private Limited Managing Director, Satya Bagla, said that the new Supersports was sure to excite speed lovers in the country, being the fastest and most powerful Bentley so far.

Tata Motors launches advanced version of Indigo CS
Tata Motors has launched a new version of its entry-level sedan, the Tata Indigo, with both petrol and diesel engine options. The Tata Indigo e-CS is priced between Rs 4.07 lakh and Rs 5.13 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and is compliant with the latest Bharat Stage IV emission norms. The diesel version of the car comes with a 1.4 litre CR4 common rail engine and delivers a mileage of 23.03 km/litre. Its petrol version comes with a 1.2 litre MPFI engine.

Mercedes-Benz India introduces new C-Class variant -- C200 CGI
German luxury-car manufacturer, Mercedes-Benz, has launched a new petrol variant of the C-Class -
the C200 CGI - in India. Priced at Rs 28.44 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai), the car uses the latest CGI technology, and delivers improved mileage. Mr Bharat Balasubramanian, VP of Product Innovation and Process Technologies, Daimler AG, said that CGI technology heralded a new era in gasoline engines with better output and "even more impressive emission statistics".

Tata Motors to inspect 33,000 Nanos
Tata Motors has decided to inspect approximately 33,000 Nanos that have been delivered to customers so far, following reports of two fire-related accidents involving the car this year. The company will contact all individual owners of the car, starting from May 24, 2010, and inspect their cars free of cost. However, Tata Motors also said that the
Nano was a safe car with state-of-the-art components, and that it would not be recalled.

Maruti, Volkswagen discuss synergies in manufacturing, product design
Officials from auto companies Maruti Suzuki and Volkswagen India
met recently to explore the possibility of a tie-up in production and vehicle design. German car maker Volkswagen had bought a 20 percent stake in Japan's Suzuki Motor in 2009. Industry analysts say that VW may now employ Maruti's low-cost manufacturing expertise in its own projects, and also work with it in areas such as product design and testing. The two companies, however, will not share distribution networks.

Carnation to start spare-part business with Magneti Marelli by end of 2010
Jagdish Khattar's Carnation Auto will be starting its spare-part business by the end of 2010, along with Italian auto component maker, Magneti Marelli. In 2009, Carnation had tied up with the Fiat Group's Magneti Marelli to service premium cars and sell spare parts. Mr Khattar said that while Magneti would take care of component sourcing, Carnation would handle distribution. At present, Carnation has service outlets in 11 cities across India.

Upgraded Alto may be powered by 1-litre K-series engine
Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) may soon launch an upgraded version of its small-car, Alto, with a 1-litre K-series engine. MSIL Chairman Mr RC Bhargava said that the Alto had needed a facelift for a long time, but refused to comment on when its new version would be launched. The company had upgraded the car's existing 800cc engine to comply with BS-IV norms, last month. The new Alto, if it comes with a bigger engine, will also cost more than its existing variants.

GM postpones launch of electric Spark
General Motors India will not be launching the electric version of its small car, Chevrolet Spark,
in September 2010 as was decided earlier. The company has not yet decided on whether to use lead-acid batteries or lithium-ion batteries in the car. Mr P Balendran, the Vice President of GM India, said that the company would either import the battery from its lithium-ion battery plant in the US, or source it from local manufacturers.
