Nissan may tie up with Ashok Leyland's Defiance Tech to design small car

Japanese auto company, Nissan Motor, is likely to tie-up with Defiance Technologies - a Detroit based company owned by Ashok Leyland (ALL) - to design its global compact car. Nissan, which already has a tie-up with ALL to manufacture commercial vehicles, had announced earlier that the latter was also its preferred partner for the development of the small car. However, a final decision on the partnership is yet to be taken. The car is expected to be priced at $4,500-5,000 (Rs 2.02-2.25 lakh).

Dealers offer Nano off the shelf; Tata Motors says deliveries according to schedule

Even as car dealers claim that the Tata Nano is now available off the shelf, with its base model being delivered within two days of booking, Tata Motors itself says that it is delivering the car according to the original schedule. A Tata Motors spokesperson said that the company was still delivering the car at its original price to its first 100,000 customers selected by draw. The company had earlier said that the Nano would be available for open market sales by August 2010.

American distributor sues M&M for delay in launch of pick-up trucks

An Atlanta-based company, Global Vehicles USA, has filed a lawsuit against Mahindra & Mahindra for delaying the launch of its pick-up trucks in the US. M&M had signed a distribution agreement with Global Vehicles in 2006, and had originally planned to launch its vehicles in the US in 2008. However, the launch got delayed twice due to the Indian company's inability to get the required safety and emission certificates.

Hyundai Wia may set up auto component facility in Andhra Pradesh

Korean auto-part company, Hyundai Wia, may soon set up a car-component manufacturing plant in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh. The company is a subsidiary of Hyundai Motor, and produces car parts, airplane components and satellite imagery products. According to media reports, Hyundai Wia has already approached the government of AP to set up a production facility in Nellore. The plant is expected to be operational by April 2011, and will be set up at an initial investment of Rs 1,200 crore.

Tata Motors begins deliveries of luxury car Jaguar XJ

Tata Motors-owned luxury car company, Jaguar & Land Rover (JLR), has begun deliveries of the Jaguar XJ in India. The car comes at a starting price of Rs 85.05 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai) for the Portfolio variant, powered by a naturally aspirated 5-litre V8 engine. Other engine choices include the 3-litre V6 diesel engine and the 5-litre supercharged V8 engine. The XJ also boasts of best-in-segment technical features like adaptive dynamics, active differential control, air suspension, and quick ratio power steering.

Maruti Suzuki to launch new version of Swift

Maruti Suzuki is expected to launch a new version of its high-end compact car, the Maruti Swift, in September 2010. The new Swift will be 90mm longer than its existing version, and will be powered by a 1.2 litre engine with Dual VVT. The company will use higher tensile steel to build the car's bodyshell, making it lighter and stronger. Suzuki has already unveiled a new version of the car for the international market, with a longer wheelbase and a few design changes inspired by the Kizashi.
