Hyundai India launches Verna Transform
Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has launched an upgraded version of its mid-sized sedan, the
Hyundai Verna, priced between Rs 6.56 lakh and Rs 9.22 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The new 'Verna Transform' comes with both petrol and diesel variants, and sports a new look with 'sharp eye' headlamps and a new bumper design. The car's interiors too have received a makeover to enhance user convenience and driving comfort.

Nissan India to launch compact car Micra on July 14, 2010
Japanese auto company, Nissan, will launch its small car, Nissan Micra, in India on July 14, 2010. The car is being manufactured at Nissan's new production facility in Oragadam, near Chennai, and is expected to be priced at approximately Rs 4 lakh. It will be powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine, and will compete with the Maruti Swift, the Hyundai i10 and the Hyundai i20. Nissan has already received 1,049 bookings for the car.

Jaguar-Land Rover to expand dealership network in India
UK-based luxury car maker, Jaguar & Land Rover (JLR),
is planning to expand its dealership network in India to a total of six showrooms by 2011. The Tata Motors-owned company currently has three dealerships in India - in New Delhi and Mumbai - and will open four more in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai and Ludhiana within an year. In 2009-10, JLR sold 242 units in India, with most of its sales coming from the Mumbai dealership.

Hyundai Motor India to launch 800cc small car in 2012
Hyundai India is planning to launch a small car powered by an 800cc engine, to compete with Maruti's top selling model, the Alto. The car is likely to be launched in 2012, and will be priced at approximately Rs 2 lakh. The Alto comes at a starting price of a little over Rs 2 lakh, and is the highest selling car in India at present. Hyundai will also be launching its much awaited SUV, the Santa Fe, by the end of 2010.

Toyota Kirloskar rules out third shift to reduce waiting period
Toyota Kirloskar Motor
(TKM) has decided not to start a third shift at its plant in Bidadi, due to logistical and infrastructure-related difficulties. There is currently a seven-month waiting period for the Toyota Fortuner
and a one-month waiting period for the Toyota Innova. TKM Deputy MD, Mr Shekhar Viswanathan, told reporters that a third shift would mean putting in place a new infrastructure and hiring a new set of employees, which will have to be discontinued once the backlog is cleared, making it an unviable option.

Proton looking for Indian partner; denies reports of tie-up with M&M
Malaysian auto company, Proton, said this week that it was looking for an Indian partner to enter the passenger car market in the country. The company will develop a 1.0 or 1.5 litre small car in collaboration with UK-based carmaker, Lotus, within the next two years. Proton's MD, Mr Syed Zainal, said that the company was in talks with an Indian firm, but refused to disclose its name. Mr Zainal denied the recent media reports that had suggested a possible tie-up between Proton and Mahindra & Mahindra.
