Porsche may use VW's India facility to assemble SUV Cayenne
Luxury sports-car manufacturer, Porsche, may soon start assembling its SUV, Porsche Cayenne, at parent company Volkswagen's facility in India. Assembling the Cayenne locally will help the German company bring down the import duty on the vehicle from the current 113 percent to 40 percent. Porsche India
CEO, Mr Ashish Chordia, denied the report saying that the company stood for 'Made in Germany' quality and that it had no plans to shift assembly operations to India.

Nissan India talking to Alto owners as part of research for its next compact car
Japanese auto company, Nissan, which will be launching its small car, Micra, in India this month is already getting ready to develop its next compact car. The B-segment car will be developed by Nissan India in partnership with commercial-vehicle manufacturer Ashok Leyland, and is expected to be priced at approximately Rs 3 lakh. A Nissan team is reportedly talking to
Maruti Alto owners in India to determine the reasons for the top-selling car's success, and to see if customers want any extra features in a B-segment car.

Ford begins second shift at Chennai plant; starts shipping Figo to S Africa
Ford India started a second shift at its production facility in Maraimalainagar, Chennai, in June 2010, to meet the growing demand for its small car,
Figo. The company has so far received 24,000 orders for the Figo, which was launched in March 2010. The car has been a big hit in the domestic market, and Ford expects it to do well in export markets as well. The company shipped the first consignment of the car to South Africa this week, and hopes to sell 5,000 units in the country by the end of 2010.

Automakers continue to post double-digit growth in domestic sales in June 2010
Most car companies in India posted a double-digit growth in their domestic sales in June 2010, with General Motors and Ford India growing by as much as 112 percent and 267 percent respectively. The two American companies owe their success largely to the popularity of their small cars
Chevrolet Beat and Ford Figo. Tata Motors, too, saw a 63 percent jump in its passenger car sales, up from 17,039 units in June 2009 to 27,811 units in June 2010. Hyundai's domestic sales grew by almost 19 percent in the same period.

Kinetic may re-enter two-wheeler segment in 2013
Auto-company Kinetic Motor, which entered into a joint venture with Mahindra & Mahindra in 2008, may restart its two-wheeler operations in 2013. The company had signed a five-year non-compete agreement with M&M when the JV was formed. The agreement will expire in July 2013, after which Kinetic is expected to start marketing its two-wheelers again. M&M has an 80-percent stake in the JV, while Kinetic owns the remaining 20 percent.

Toyota recalls 91,903 units of Lexus, Crown models in Japan
Toyota Motor has recalled 91,903 units of its Lexus range of luxury cars and Crown sedans in Japan, due to faulty valve springs in the cars' engines. The affected cars are a part of the bigger recall announced by Toyota on July 02, 2010, involving a total of 270,000 cars globally. The company said that eight of its Lexus and Crown models, produced between 2005 and 2008, were powered by defective 4.6-litre V8 and 3.5-litre V6 engines.
