The BMW Z cars became famous after the Z3 was featured in a Bonda movie, and since then the Z range has been very successful. It is a compact sports convertible or roadster that is now in its second generation, but has gotten a facelift in 2013. The BMW Z4 can compete with the Nissan 370Z and the Audi TT.
Design & Styling
The design of the BMW Z4 Roadster captivates the beholder with every detail and line. It combines the highest aesthetic with powerful sportiness. The long front hood with the sharp side gills and the traditional sporty BMW front grille look very imposing and sleek. The flowing line the move from the front to the rear, give it a muscle look with functional aerodynamics. The car sits very low just like a proper sports car and the rear gets nicely tailored taillights and the tip of the boot gets a tipped design to act like a spoiler. The car looks very elegant and sporty at the same time. The 18 inch alloy wheels also add a nice touch.

Interiors
The interiors of the BMW can be very cramped and because the car sits so low it is a hassle to get in and out of the car. There is not enough room in the cabin and some drivers may feel a little uneasy with the lack of space. However, the design on the inside is functional and beautiful, and the dashboard and instrument cluster are all set up nicely, and the ergonomics are quite good. The seats are also quite comfortable and steering wheel adds a nice touch to the overall interior design.
Engine & Transmission
The BMW Z4 is available with a 2979cc 6-cylinder twin power turbo petrol engine that can produce a good amount of power that is rated at 306bhp and 400Nm of torque. The engine is incredibly smooth and refined and is paired to an equally incredible 7-speed sport automatic double clutch transmission that works very well.
Performance and Handling
The BMW Z4 is a fantastic car to drive, but it is not the most practical car to own and drive in a city with traffic. You will not enjoy the car much if you plan to use it on a daily basis. Instead if you wish to tap its huge potential this could very well be a second car that you choose to take out on the weekend or on excursions to fun roads. The acceleration of the car is quite brilliant and you feel the full force of the engine whip you forward. Throttle response is fantastic throughout the rev metre and the overall ride quality is amazing. The best thing about the car though is the way it handles. The car obeys your every instruction and the steering is very direct and provides great feedback. Overall its is a sports car that serves its purpose well – to excite the driver.
Fuel Efficiency
The Z4 provides a fuel efficiency of about 8kmpl.
Features
The 5 series in its highest variant comes stacked with features such as power steering, power windows, full automatic climate control, multifunction information display, a 8.8 inch display and iDrive controller, a beautiful music system with great speakers, navigation, leather seats and sports seats for the driver. There are also rear seat screens available. These 9.2 inch displays allow the passengers to play DVDs, play games or listen to music.
Safety
Safety features include runflat tyres, adaptive headlights, lane departure warning and collision warning, Dynamic stability control, Traction control, ABS, and Brake Assist. Then you also get multiple airbags for all passengers.
Quality & Reliability
The Quality on all BMW cars is of top quality. Everything is made too last and give an impression of luxury, style elegance and sportiness. The car is very well built and comes with some of the best-engineered components and parts. It is also a highly reliable machine and performs to perfection.
Value for Money
The Z4 is not priced at an obnoxiously expensive amount, but it still is expensive, but it is a very good car to drive and enjoy, but its not practical and cant be used on an every day basis, which is why it doesn’t offer the best value for money.
Verdict
The Z4 is a great car no doubt, but once again it comes down to usability, and you can enjoy this car in big cities at peak traffic time, and its not the car you can take to the market or run errands in, but it is the car you would want if you like to get out and burn rubber on some nice twisty roads, so its not the most obvious choice for a first car. You can get other cars for cheaper that offer the same enjoyment and which are practical as well.
