The Chevrolet Captiva is GM India’s only SUV offering currently in the country. The Captiva has been around since 2008 and it competes with other cars such as the Ssangyong Rexton, Toyota Fortunner, and Hyundai Santa Fe. The Captiva is only available with a diesel engine but there are twp transmission variants, one being an automatic.
Design & Styling
The Captiva is certainly a good looking SUV, but not the best in its segment. Its dimensions are rather small compared to its competitors, but it does have very strong lines and curves and it has a good on road presence. It has got a nice front grille and sharp rectangular headlights, and then on the top of the car it gets silver painted roof rails, and the rear gets Led taillights for a modern touch. The car is also looks more aerodynamic than other SUVs and it comes with very nice alloy wheels.

Interiors
The interiors of the Captiva are very nice. The innovative 5+2 Flexi Seating Configuration makes the Captiva incredibly spacious while giving you ample space to relax. The comfortable interiors and luxurious jet-black leather upholstery enhance the style quotient of the cabin and there is an integrated side step to allow you to get in and out easily. The new dashboard and instrument cluster lets you control everything with a touch of a finger. Overall the cabin is setup very nice and you do get a feeling of luxury.
Engine & Transmission
The Four-Cylinder VCDi Engine is strong, sturdy and masculine. This 2.2L turbo charged diesel engine puts out 180bhp and a very nice 424Nm torque for a powerful and adrenaline-pumping drives. The engine is also mated to a very nice 6-speed manual transmission, but there is also a 6-speed auto as option.
Performance and Handling
The engine is very well refined and once you step on the throttle you can instantly feel the power being delivered to all four wheels. In the manual transmission variant it is very hard to switch gears, and in the auto variant the gear changes are a bit slow, and there is a little turbo lag. But once the car gets going it really is a great performer and has lots of power. The suspension is also decent and the handling is rather easy. Overall its not the best or most refined drive, but it is comfortable and enjoyable. The car handles really well on the highway and the ride quality is very good.
Fuel Efficiency
The Captiva can provide a fuel economy of around 12kmpl.
Features
The Cpativa comes with power steering, power windows, cruise control, automatic climate control, remote keyless entry, a sunroof, and an integrated audio system with 8 speakers and Bluetooth, plus steering mounted controls.
Safety
There are some very good safety features and include 6 airbags, traction control, hill decent control, rear parking assist, rain sensing wipers, and ABS with EBD.
Quality & Reliability
The Captiva is a very strong and sturdy car, with a beautiful engine and chassis. The car is capable to take on any kind of road and is therefore very reliable, but obviously servicing and spare parts will not be cheap.
Value for Money
The Captiva is priced very nicely for this segment and you will be getting a very good car with the money you spend.
Verdict
The only downside of the Captiva is that it doesn’t have the most aggressive features in the style department and it is also a small SUV, but other than that is a great car and comes with tons of features, and lets not forget its great engine. But if you are brand conscious you get could more premium and even smaller SUVs for the same price.
