The Ford Endeavor is based on the Ford Everest and has been in production since 2003 and was launched in India that same year. The car has been refreshed for 204 and now comes with a more modern design and features. It still is a mid-sized SUV and comes with two diesel engine variants and the option of an automatic transmission. It competes mainly with the Skoda Yeti and the Ssangyong Rexton.
Design & Styling
The Endeavor is a butch looking SUV and it has a big boxy shape. There are huge tyres and a massively prominent front grille that make this car look menacing. The new Endeavor gets decals on the sides and some sporty alloy rims. It also gets a newly designed front section including new headlights and side air intakes. It is just over 5metres in length and is tall at 1826mm and has a good ground clearance of 210mm.

Interiors
The interiors have also been refreshed and there is a newly designed steering column and a new dashboard as well as a more modern instrument cluster. There is now also a two-tone beige interior. The car is very roomy with lots of space for passengers and storage. It is not the most luxurious SUV but it is quite comfortable and practical on the inside.
Engine & Transmission
The Endeavor comes with a 2WD 2.5 litre diesel unit with 140bhp and a 3.0 litre diesel unit with the option of 4WD and an automatic transmission. We drove the 4WD 3.0 litre diesel with 154bhp and 380Nm of torque and but was mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission. The gearbox is not the best though and you have the option to electronically switch to 4x4 on the fly.
Performance and Handling
The car is very rough on the edges in that it is not the most refined car. There is no complaint in terms of power but you can feel that the overall performance could be much better enhanced. It is one of the cheaper large SUVs and so the finishing touches and engineering is not the best. The 4WD works very well and the car can take on any on road and off-road situation with ease. The automatic transmission on the other hand is not too good and gear changes are not on time. The steering is also a little too light and could have been more responsive. It’s not easy to maneuver this big car and it takes time to get used to its size. On the highway it also performs very well and can reach high speeds with ease. The ride quality is also very decent. Brakes work very well and the large tyres provide good amount of grip on the roads.
Fuel Efficiency
You can expect to get an average fuel economy of 11kmpl.
Features
The new generation Endeavor comes with power steering, power windows, air conditioning, leather seats, 6CD audio system with steering mounted controls, a touchscreen LCD unit and satellite navigation.
Safety
Safety features include dual stage airbags, ABS, EBD, limited slip differential, central locking, keyless entry and a reverse parking camera.
Quality & Reliability
The overall quality of the car is not bad at all, but you can make out that some of the components are not the best, for example the old styled automatic transmission and the dashboard, typical in all Ford cars. Otherwise it is a very capable machine and is built to be a tough off-roader and is a very sturdy and reliable machine. Servicing and parts can be a little expensive.
Value for Money
The car is definitely great value for money. It is one of the cheapest foreign brand SUVs in the country and is very well built.
Verdict
This is perhaps the most practical SUV in the country. Its not too expensive but it is massive and comes with a powerful engine. It performs very well off-road and runs great on the highway. If you want a proper no nonsense SUV this could be the car for you, if you don’t mind not getting a luxurious interior.
