The Honda Amaze is the sedan version of the Brio hatchback. It is built on the same platform but features the extended hood to give it a sedan look. The car was launched early 2012 and was received well by the market. The Amaze comes with a petrol engine and for the first time Honda has brought a diesel unit into its line-up in India. The Amaze is an entry level sedan and will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, Chevrolet Sail and Tata Manza.
Design & Styling
The Amaze is the exact same car as the Brio, only it features a slightly longer wheelbase and an extended rear boot. The front grille, headlights and bumpers are the same, expect for the rear tail lights that have been accommodated to fit on the rear boot. The wheel arches and tyre sizes are also the same, it is essentially the same car as the Brio.

Interiors
The interiors of the Amaze are also the exact same as the Brio. There is however more rear passenger space because of the extended wheelbase. There is lots of room in the car for all passengers and the seats are also comfortable. The dashboard and instrument cluster is the same modern and practical design as it is in the Brio, which means the interiors are very nice.
Engine & Transmission
The petrol engine found in the amaze is the exact same 1198cc petrol engine found in the Brio and it can create 88bhp and 109Nm of torque. We drove the 1498cc 4-cylinder diesel unit that can create 100bhp and 200Nm of torque, which are fantastic figures for a car at such a low price point and small size. The Petrol variant also gets the option of a 5-speed automatic transmission, but the diesel only comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Bothe the engines are incredibly refined.
Performance and Handling
The Amaze is a good car to drive as well. The diesel variant that we had performed very well. There may have been just a little bit of lag response from the diesel engine but otherwise the car has great power and can pick up speed very quickly indeed. The Amaze also handles well and has a great suspension setup, which seems to be a little bit stiffer than in the Brio, but this is obviously because of the added weight an extended wheelbase. Overall the engine is incredibly smooth and the car is very composed on the road and is a gem to drive.
Fuel Efficiency
The Amaze diesel unit will probably give you around 16kmpl, while the petrol unit could give you 14kmpl on average.
Features
The Amaze is an entry level sedan, but it does come with power windows, power steering, a music system with steering mounted controls, air conditioning and central locking with keyless entry.
Safety
The safety features included are ABS with EBD and driver and passenger airbags.
Quality & Reliability
The Amaze is built very well and has an incredibly well refined engine. The exterior quality and interior quality of parts and panels is solid, and there is no sign of sloppy finishing touches. Everything seems just great in the Brio. It is also a very sturdy machine as we found out. The chassis is well constructed and there is nothing to really worry about. Servicing will not be a problem and most of the components are cheap and easy to get a hold of.
Value for Money
There is no other sedan that can match the Amaze in terms of value for money, and that is because the quality is very good and the engine is fantastic. It’s a great sedan worth every penny spent.
Verdict
Once again Honda has done a great job with the Amaze. It shares almost everything with the Brio hatchback and therefore we already know that it is a good car. There is lots of additional rear space room for passengers now as well. It’s a great car with a great engine and you also have an option for diesel and even an automatic transmission if you like. If you are looking for a sedan on a tight budget, then the Amaze is the best car for you.

Its very nice car, when I test drove it, I decided that it should be my first car. It given me a good average around 22 to 23 kmpl on highway and 16 to 18 in city. I love to drive this car and I recommend the car.
Car is good in all respect except hard suspensions and doubtable high cost of maintenance. Honda does not allow spares to be sold in open market and keeps monopoly. Therefore you have no choice other than to depend on Honda dealer only. In case of any breakdown (chances are very rare but exist) on road, you have to move to company dealer who are not many in numbers, costing you lot of money.
Fuel average in petrol is around 15-16 kmpl in real world which is decent for such cars. I am using indigo CS for official works and run approximately 2,000 km per month, 500 to 1000km per month by Bolero and approximately 200-300 km by Alto. I found that because of hard suspensions ride of Amaze is inferior to Indigo and Bolero. However the Amaze engine is smooth and refined. Space is good and adequate. Gears are excellent, look wise it is also good.
Fun to drive with ease. I had shifted from Petrol i10 to Amaze Diesel. But its same way how i10 was driven with smooth steering. Taken test drive of all sedans like DZire, i20 also Etios. But again and again Amaze attracted me that own me also. And finally I have taken it. I have driven 2000 kms. And have no regrets to have it.
