The Eon is Hyundai India’s entry level hatchback that was launched in 2011. It features a very futuristic design called fluidic design concept by the Korean car makers. It looks trendy, is very small and has got some decent engine specs. The Eon competes with Maruti Alto and the Chevy Spark. There are many variants available with a petrol engine and there is also a LPG version available.
Design & Styling
The Eon can easily be mistaken for the i10 because of the similar trends they share in design. The Eon is however smaller but shares the same sweptback headlights and front grille as the i10. Other than that the car is modern and fresh and uses decent quality panels and plastics.

Interiors
The Eon is very small on the inside. The car is meant to be a city commuter so the front passengers get good space but there is no leg room in the rear for passengers. The dashboard is decently done up but with minimalist efforts. The boot space of the car is also very small. The interior also looks good with the 2-tone beige setup.
Engine & Transmission
The Eon uses a 3-cylinder 814cc petrol engine that can create 56bhp. The 5-speed manual gearbox is mated to the engine and the combination works very well. The engine is also very well refined.
Performance and Handling
The Eon does its job well and serves the purpose of being a comfortable peppy and efficient city commuter vehicle. The engine works quite well and moves the car with a bit of pace. The steering is quite good as it is structured well with the suspension setup of the car. The gear changes are smooth and effortless and the ride quality becomes enjoyable.
Fuel Efficiency
The engine is very fuel efficient and you can expect to get around 18kmpl. With the LPG version this can be significantly increased.
Features
Bing an entry level hatch in the Indian market there are no special features found in the Eon. In the highest variant however you get in-built audio system, power windows and power steering.
Safety
There are no safety features in the lower variants, but you do get airbags and front fog lamps.
Quality & Reliability
Hyundai has stepped it game up and has significantly improved in terms of quality. The Eon is the newest addition to the hatch family and it is built very well and is very good in terms of quality of components used and reliability. Hyundai also has the second largest dealership and service network in the country so you can always find parts and the components are inexpensive.
Value for Money
The Eon is worth every penny you pay for it. The performance and ride and quality are just th best in this segment. And also you get the best features if you buy the top end variant.
Verdict
The Eon is simply the best sub-litre hatch in the country. It has no defaults except for space and you can’t help that in any case because of the sheer size of the car. If you need an entry level city car with a great package and minimum cost, this is the car you should consider.
