The i10 has been a phenomenal entry hatchback car and it still is today. The success of the i10 prompted the Korean maker to come out with an extended version of the i10, and hence the name Grand i10. The Grand i10 was launched in 2013 and it is simply a larger car based on the same platform of the i10. It comes with many engine variants and t competes with the Tata Indica Vista, Chevrolet Beat, Honda Brio and Ford Figo.
Design & Styling
The Grand i10 looks like the most practical city car for India. In fact it looks almost like a cross between the i10 and the i20, because of its longer wheelbase and sharper front end. The front end is borrowed for the i10 and the lights and grille are typical Hyundai design, while the mid section gets some nice body lines and buffering, plus the roof rails add a nice touch. The rear section gets some nicely designed tail lamps and an integrated rear spoiler. The i10 is a good looking vehicle with a very modern approach with an aerodynamic silhouette.

Interiors
The interiors are much the same as the i10 only you get additional rear space for the passengers, thanks to the extended wheelbase. The cabin is very spacious and the front dashboard also gets a new look thanks to the integrated 2-DIN audio system. The ergonomics are spot on as in the i10 and the i20 making the Grand i10 a very comfortable car to drive.
Engine & Transmission
The Grand i10 comes with a 1.1 litre CRDi engine that delivers 70bhp and then there is the same 1.2 litre petrol engine found in the i10 and i20 with 82bhp. All the engines are very well built and provide excellent performance. The engine are mated to a 5-speed manual, but on the petrol engine you also get the option of a 4-speed automatic.
Performance and Handling
The grand i10 is probably one of the most practical cars to own today in India. The performance of this machine is brilliant and everything from engine power to throttle response, and suspension to handling is really good. The car is light and its centre of gravity is low so the control is really good and the handling is superb. The engine gives you enough power to enjoy on city and on the highway. The diesel engine however doesn’t provide as an engaging ride as the petrol, and the automatic transmission is not the best, because it shifts late and you use more petrol in this way. But overall the ride and drive of this car are great.
Fuel Efficiency
The diesel unit manages to give you around 13kmpl, but the petrol automatic gives you around 9kmpl.
Features
The Grand i10 comes with power steering, power windows, air-conditioning, integrated in-built audio system with everything to offer such as Bluetooth and USB, a push button for start / stop and a cooled glove box.
Safety
Safety features in the Grand i10 include central locking, reverse parking sensors, airbags, and ABS.
Quality & Reliability
The quality of the Grand i10 is good and the car is built very well to take on any road that comes its way. The engine is well refined and the cabin consists of tough components as well. The Grand i10 is also highly reliable and will not bother you when it comes to servicing and repairs.
Value for Money
You cannot find anything in the market today with a better value for your money spent.
Verdict
The Grand i10 is purposely built for young urban families, and it does its job very well. it works as a commuter and for some it will also be car that takes them on long road trips. There is plenty of space and a fun driving experience. This is the most practical car for anyone in India and you will not be disappointed.
