Interiors
The interiors have also been done up very nicely and the dashboard is modern looking with good quality. There is surprisingly a decent amount of space as well for the front passengers, but rear passengers can find it a bit cramped. There are multiple storage options and there are even rear AC vents. The ergonomics are very nice and everything is placed well in reach for the driver.
Engine & Transmission
The Xcent comes with two engine variants. There is the 1.2 litre VTVT petrol engine that produces 82bhp and then the transmission is available with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic. The automatic transmission is quite good and the engine is very well refined. There is also an option for a diesel unit and this is the 1.1 litre unit that produces 72bhp. The diesel unit is only available with a 5-speed manual transmission, and this engine is also very well refined.
Performance and Handling
The Xcent is an excellent on-road performer and both engine variants are really good. The diesel unit has good torque but the petrol engine is the best overall performer and it drives very well on city streets as well as the highway, making it a very good first car for young people. The handling is also quite direct and the car is easy to control. The suspension setup is also very good and the Xcent can drive on almost any road that comes its way. The ride quality is really good and it shows just how far Hyundai engineering has come. Overall driving dynamics are really good and this is a fun car to drive.
Fuel Efficiency
The diesel unit can provide a fuel economy of 18kmpl, while the petrol manual provides 13kmpl. The automatic variant provides around 9kmpl.
Features
The Xcent comes with some very good features that include power steering, power windows, air-conditioning, in built audio system with USB and Bluetooth, and steering mounted controls. It also gets push button start stop.
Safety
It also comes with some very good safety features for its segment and it includes central locking, keyless entry, Parking assist, airbags and ABS.
Quality & Reliability
The overall build quality of the Xcent is very good and the use of good quality components is prevalent throughout the car. The exteriors are tough and the interiors give a nice premium feel for the segment so it does have btter quality than most other cars it competes with, and it is at par with Honda. Hyundai has a great after sales service and components are very cheap. The car should be a very reliable machine.
Value for Money
The car is priced very competitively and offers you great driving dynamics and features, which gives it a very high value for the money you pay for it.
Verdict
The Hyundai Xcent is a brilliant car overall and it dismisses the competition clearly. The closest competitor it has is the Honda Amaze, which actually costs more. If you are looking to buy your first sedan or you want a practical solution for a city and highway car, the Xcent is the perfect vehicle.
