The XJ is the flagship model for Jaguar. It is a full size ultra luxury saloon and was launched in India in 2010 at the Delhi Auto Expo, although its origins date back to 1968. There are both petrol and diesel variants available in India including a supercharged 5.0 litre V8. The XJ competes with the Mercedes S Class, Audi A8 and the BMW 7 series.
Design & Styling
The Jaguar XJ is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful luxury saloon cars available in the market today. The whole model range from Jaguar follow a new design philosophy that is both contemporary and unique. The car looks very aerodynamic with its swooping lines and beautiful silhouette. The front section features a very long hood and a simple front grille with the elongated headlights and the silver side sills under the front door. The car is very long and is over 5 metres in length and almost2 metres wide. It has beautiful curves that extend all the way to the rear section where the taillights stretch all the way up to the C Pillar. There are some nice wheel arches that accentuate the overall look of the car. The Car sits low and has a very good on-road stance. Then there is also the body kit ad the alloy wheel to make it look aggressive as well.

Interiors
The Interiors of the car are beautiful, elegant and ultra luxurious. There is tons of space for all occupants and the rear seats also features folding trays for busy businessmen. The colour scheme and the finishing touches are really good and you can also choose from a wide variety of paint schemes and finishing materials. The dashboard is very modern while the instrument cluster is futuristic and completely digital. The ergonomics are spot on and the driver is immersed in comfort as well.
Engine & Transmission
We drove the 3.0 litre V6 diesel engine that can pump out 270bhp and 600Nm of torque. This is the same engine found in the XF as well, and there is also a 5.0 litre engine if you need more power. The engine is a real beauty and sounds magnificent. The engine is mated to a beautifully crafted 8-speed auto gearbox.
Performance and Handling
The XJ is a great car to drive but it is very large foo crowded city streets. Thanks to the massive torque from the engine the car can pick up speed very well despite is big size. The suspension is setup for comfort and so is very soft allowing for a smooth ride. On the highway the car really performs well and is a joy to ride. The steering is also nice but we would have preferred a little more feel from the steering wheel. The XJ uses the same drivetrain and components as the XF and so the tyres also are very good and the car runs very well and stays planted around bends and curves. The brakes are all disc and so they are very effective as well. It’s a beautiful car to drive and it’s very smooth for a diesel engine. The gears change on point and you can always switch to manual and get instant change on demand. The drive is not the most engaging but as an occupant you will definitely enjoy this car more, as this is not in true fashion a real driver’s car.
Fuel Efficiency
We managed to get around 10 kmpl, which is very decent.
Features
The XJ comes with full electric power steering with mounted controls and the steering wheel can also be heated as well as the seats. There is a fully digital instrument cluster, full automatic climate control, a 7-inch colour touchscreen that acts as a television as well, start stop button, electric parking brake, and a state of the art audio system with some really good quality speakers, and cruise control. The technology in this car is truly amazing.
Safety
Safety features include dynamic stability control, emergency brake assist, ABS, traction control, cornering brake control, pedestrian contact sensing system, parking sensors, adaptive front lighting and plenty of airbags to keep everyone safe.
Quality & Reliability
Jaguar has grown in leaps and bounds when it comes to quality, and the XJ is a true example of this. It is perhaps one of the best quality executive cars around. Because everything is electric, there have been cases with faulty wiring, but otherwise the car is highly reliable and built with the best materials. Of course serving and components are very expensive.
Value for Money
You are getting every penny’s worth with this beautiful vehicle.
Verdict
This is definitely the most beautiful saloon luxury car in the market today, both in terms of its exterior design and interior technology. The engine is a beauty and the car drives well at the same time providing ultra luxurious settings. However, this is a car that most people would prefer to be chauffeured around in, and rightly so, because it really is a 5-star hotel on wheels.
