The Mahindra Quanto is an MPV that was launched in 2013 by Mahindra, although the company prefers to call it a compact SUV. The Quanto is based on the Xylo, and competes against the Ford Ecosport and Fiat Avvetura. The car is available with only a diesel engine.
Design & Styling
The Quanto is perhaps one of the oddest looking MPVs you will see on the streets but it’s purposely built to be very practical. It’s got a good ground clearance and it is very tall, but it is also very short and therefore looks bit squished. The front hood is also very short and is inclined heavily. The front grille is also small but the wheel arches and roof rails, add some character to the car. The design is deinfitely unique but it is hard to warm up to.

Interiors
The interiors of the Quanto are actually quite nice. The dashboard is also practical and the ergonomics are very good, allowing for a comfortable drive. There is also a decent amount of room for all occupants. There are also two additional rear seats in the boot that can be folded and the middle row of seats can also be folded to allow for additional storage options. The overall quality is also quite decent and the cabin seems to be comfortable enough for 5 people.
Engine & Transmission
The Quanto gets a 3-cylinder 1.5 litre diesel engine that can generate 100bhp and 240Nm of torque. The engine is well built, but one of the most refined, and it is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission that does the job well.
Performance and Handling
The engine is actually quite a decent performer on the road, and the car picks up speed well thanks to the torque. Even as low as 1500rpm the torque kicks in and the car moves forward with ease. Mid-range torque us also good, but its best to shift gears early because the power wears off soon. Thanks to its dimensions the car is also very easy to manage in cities and the handling is also especially good and direct. The suspension however is a bit too soft and there is lots of body-roll if you make fast turns. On the highway the car is quite smooth but it does have a serious lack of power as you try to push it towards 110kmph. Overtaking on the highway can be a problem if you don’t time it correctly. The car is also not too bad on bumpy roads, but its ground clearance is quite low, so you wouldn’t want to do any off-roading in this car at all.
Fuel Efficiency
A fuel efficiency of 16kmpl was recorded.
Features
The Quanto comes with power steering, power windows, air-conditioning, central locking, and an integrated audio system.
Safety
The car gets safety features such as ABS and front airbags.
Quality & Reliability
The overall quality of the car is decent. The exteriors however lack a good fit and finish, but the use of components is good and the car is quite sturdy. The interiors also impress with decent quality. The car is backed by Mahindra so you can be sure that you will have no issues when it comes to after sales service. However the Quanto does feel a bit flimsy and is probably not the most reliable car, but it still is good enough to take you anywhere.
Value for Money
The Value for money factor is very good here because the Quanto is a fantastic package with a very little price tag.
Verdict
In this segment you might want to opt for the foreign car makers because the quality is better, and the technology is better, but more importantly the competition looks much better.
