The Mahindra Reva e20 was the first ever Indian made full electric car. Mahindra bought the Reva company over in 2011, and significant changes were made to the car. The Reva does not compete with any other vehicle, because it is in a segment of its own, and it is the perfect commuter car for the environmentally conscious driver.
Design & Styling
The Reva has a very practical design. It is perhaps one of the smallest cars, along with the Nano, that is available in the Indian market. Because it is an electric car it does not have a long hood because there is no engine. The car does seem to be a little cramped, but still maintains quite a unique and interesting design, but it also uses good quality components. The 2-door Reva e20 gets a nice small black front grille and very stylish headlights. The front bumper also gets some muscle and look strong. The overall design is modern and fresh, and the Reva look like it belongs on the road in this day and age. The rear is also nice with stylish LED taillights.

Interiors
The Interiors of the car are definitely very cramped and it is ideally meant for two people, but you can squeeze in two adults in the rear seat as well. The dashboard is conventional in design and the ergonomics are decent, but the quality is quite good. There is however no room in the boot except for a few shopping bags.
Engine & Transmission
The car is powered by a DC electric motor which gets its life from lithium-ion batteries and gets a power rating of 25.4bhp and 55Nm of torque. It also comes with an automatic transmission.
Performance and Handling
The overall performance is not something you would quite expect from a tiny electric car, because it actually is quite good. It obviously doesn’t get a fast acceleration, but the throttle response is very good and you eventually reach a top speed of 80km/h if you are the only passenger. The suspension setup is also very good, and the car can take on bumpy roads without causing too much discomfort in the cabin. The handling is also very good even though there is no power steering, but because there is no engine under the hood, the front section is light and steering is quite easy. The brakes are also remarkably good because it uses a combination of electric and mechanical braking that is very effective. On the whole, this car will actually surprise you, but it is only meant for city driving.
Fuel Efficiency
The car can travel a total of 100km without the use of the AC.
Features
The car comes with power windows, air conditioning, and a neat little two-DIN touchscreen multimedia system. The system displays your power levels and some other information.
Safety
There are no new age safety features.
Quality & Reliability
The overall quality is actually very good throughout the car and it is built to be sturdy and strong. It will be very reliable only if you keep it for city driving. The only component that will cost you a heap of money will be the batteries, but other than that the car is very reliable and easy to maintain.
Value for Money
The cost is quite high so you don’t get the right value for your money, but whats good is you don’t have to pay for fuel ever again.
Verdict
This is a decent car only if you keep it for daily commuter use. Other than that it is pointless because charging stations are not abundant in India.
