The Verito Vibe is the hatchback version of Mahindra’s sedan Verito. Unlike the Verito, the Verito Vibe only comes with a diesel engine and it competes with the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Toyota Etios Liva, Honda Brio and the Tata Bolt.
Design & Styling
The Verito Vibe is not a pleasant looking sedan, despite the fact that it has gone under the knife. It looks heavily outdated and has sharp lines all along the body but has no curves at all, which give it no aerodynamic elements. The car is just less than 4 metres, and the front hood is too small and the grille and headlights look like a single unit. The rear also looks heavily out of place and time. The mid section is the only thing that works for the car as the faired wheel arches go well with the high roof. Other than that the car is poorly designed.

Interiors
The interiors are also quite shoddy and the materials are not the best. The ergonomics are alright and work well, but the dashboard is again not a good design. The instrument cluster is decent and so is the steering wheel. Other than that the seats have dull grey upholstery and there is nothing that catches the eye, except the AC vents which are spaced nicely and have a good look. There is good headroom but just average leg room for the rear passengers, but thanks to the car’s width there is plenty of space to comfortably fit 3 occupants. The front seats get plenty of room as well and are very comfortable.
Engine & Transmission
We drove the 4-cylinder 1.5 litre diesel unit that produces 65bhp and 160Nm of torque. This engine seems loud and unrefined but it is in fact very efficient and does perform decently and is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
Performance and Handling
The car moves quite well and also behaves well on the road. Picking up speed at low revs is very good and you can pick up speed on demand, which makes driving in city roads very easy and hassle free. The clutch has been improved and feels light and easy to press in making gear changes easier. The suspension setup of this car is also quite remarkable and it can take on some nasty roads without having the occupants complain much. However it is setup to light and when maneuvering through tight corners and curves it loses stability and increases body roll, and the steering is also quite light, which makes it a little tough to handle. Overall though it is quite a good car to drive and feels good as well.
Fuel Efficiency
The Verito will probably give you an average fuel economy of 15kmpl depending on your driving habits.
Features
Since it is an entry-level sedan you can’t expect to find too many new age features on the car, but it does come with power steering, power windows, air conditioning, a music system and central locking.
Safety
Only the high end variant comes with driver airbag and ABS with EBD.
Quality & Reliability
Quality has certainly improved since the Logan, but it is still not the best. Of course the Verito is only an entry level sedan so you can’t expect to find much high quality throughout the car, but the exterior design and its components don’t look too good, and the interior also could have been better made. However it is a very reliable car and so far has had no major issues regarding servicing and components.
Value for Money
The car performs very well even though it doesn’t look too appealing, and it is priced very competitively, so the value for money is quite good in the Verito. You are definitely getting your money’s worth.
Verdict
A boring looking vehicle car, decent interior quality, lots of space, but great driving dynamics, the Verito Vibe is very practical for its price and also is not a boring car to drive. It is priced very well and also has decent fuel economy, so if you don’t mind driving around in a great vehicle that looks like it belongs in the 90s, then go for it.
