The Maruti Suzuki Stingray is a new hatchback model based on the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R. The car was launched in 2013 and features a brand new design. The Stingray comes with a 998cc engine and it competes with the Tata Indica Vista, Chevrolet Beat, Hyundai i10, Honda Brio and Ford Figo.
Design & Styling
The design of the stingray is very unique. It has the same overall shape of the Wagon R, which is boxy and with flat lines, but now the front end get a much sharper grille that are integrated with two rectangular headlights, to make the car look even more unique ad more modern. The car is well under 4 metres and is still quite high at 1.67 metres. The rear end also has newly designed headlights and there is an integrated spoiler at the back.

Interiors
The interiors of the Stingray are very spacious. Because of the car’s tall dimensions there is plenty of head room available in the car, but there isn’t the best legroom. The seats are nice for all passengers and the instrument cluster and dashboard are very simple yet practical allowing for great ergonomics.
Engine & Transmission
The Stingray comes with a 998cc three-cylinder engine that churns out 68bhp, and this si the same engine found in the Celerio as well. The engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox that also works well with the engine.
Performance and Handling
The engine is not the best performer but it does the job well, and the Stingray can pick up speed easily. Acceleration is not instantaneous, but on the highway the car does give you enough power to overtake and in the city it also drives well. The suspension is setup well and the overall ride quality has nothing negative about it. The steering response is light and the tall dimensions once again don’t make the Stingray the best car around sharp corners. Overall it still is a good performer and I very practical.
Fuel Efficiency
The Stingray provides around 15kmpl on average.
Features
There aren’t many features but you still get air conditioning, power steering, power windows and an in-built audio system, plus keyless entry.
Safety
Safety features include central locking, ABS and driver airbag.
Quality & Reliability
The quality is very decent on the Stingray, and you get what you pay for. Overall it’s a well built machine and the fit and finishing is pretty good as well. on the inside you can make out the materials are not the best, but they do the job. And of course you can go wrong with Maruti servicing and after sales services.
Value for Money
The Stingray is a very nice contemporary city commuter for India and it provides high value for your money.
Verdict
The Stingray is a unique car no doubt because of its overall design. It provides very good space thanks to its dimensions and the interior cabin is comfortable. The engine is also very well refined and the car performs well both on highways and on city streets. This is definitely not a fun driver’s car, but it is a great car nonetheless.
