Mitsubishi is a Japanese conglomerate which consists of a number of businesses under the Mitsubishi brand.
Mitsubishi Motors Corporation ventured into the Indian market through its association with Hindustan Motors Limited, India’ major automobile manufacturing company, 1998, to form HM-Mitsubishi Motors and launched the well-accepted Lancer in India. HM-Mitsubishi launched various other products in the Indian market, such as the Pajero, the Cedia, the Montero and the Outlander.
Hindustan Motors Limited, over the years, has equipped itself with state-of-the-art facilities for the production of passenger cars, trucks and multi utility vehicles. Hindustan Motors Limited's manufacturing facilities are situated in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. HM-Mitsubishi currently has 41 dealerships across India, including key cities like Chennai, Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Pune, Hyderabad and Kolkata.
Mitsubishi Motor's goes back to 1917 when the Mitsubishi Model A, Japan's first series-production automobile, was introduced. The company established themselves as an innovator, developing, amongst others, Japan's first diesel engine, its first large-sized bus (the start of the world famous Fuso commercial vehicle series), its first four-wheel drive passenger car prototype, and its first diesel-powered truck over the next two decades.
At the end of the Second World War Japan's large industrial groups were dismantled by order of the Allied powers and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries was split into three regional companies, each with an involvement in motor vehicle development.
The country's major need at this time was for commercial vehicles, the situation being further complicated during the first few years by a severe fuel shortage. 1946 saw the introduction of a bus which could be run on either petrol or alternative fuels, and, 1947, saw the introduction of an electric bus; in the truck field the innovations continued with Japan's first truck to be equipped with an air suspension system, as well as the first tilt-cab truck. Passenger vehicle production was confined primarily to Mitsubishi's first scooter.
As wages were rising and the idea of family motoring was taking off. The Mitsubishi 500, a mass market saloon, fulfilled this need; followed, in 1962, by a four-seater micro-compact with a two-stroke air-cooled 359cc engine, the Minica - a name which still lives today. The first Colt -a larger, more comfortable family car, not a predecessor of the modern Colt - was also introduced in the same year, and the first Galant in 1969. This was a genuine pacesetter in the Japanese market, representing the best and latest in automotive technology and was to sire a long and illustrious line with a string of motor sports honors and consumer awards to its name.
With similar growth in its commercial vehicle production it was decided that the company should create a single operation to focus on the automotive industry and, in 1970, the Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) was formed.
The 1970s saw the beginning of Mitsubishi's considerable international rallying success with Galants and Lancers, demonstrating the qualities of performance and reliability for which they are known today.
Yataro Iwasaki was the founder of Mitsubishi shipping. He began his career in the Tosa clan. His great grandfather had sold the family’s samurai status to cover debts. Yataro followed an official of the Tosa clan to Edo to further his studies.
Yataro then went to prison for several months following a dispute with the village headman.
Yataro studied with Toyo Yoshida. Yataro through Yoshida got the position of a clerk for the Tosa government. He bought back the family’s samurai status.
When Yoshida was assassinated, Yataro lost all his connections. When Yoshida’s nephew gained status, he was appointed as the top officer in three months. He bought ships, weapons and ammunitions for the Tosa clan. He also exported camphor oil, Japanese paper to finance those purchases.
The Meiji Restoration ended the rule of the Shogunate. Osaka replaced Nagasaki as the trading port and the new government forbid clan members to run business. The company adopted the name Mitsubishi in March 1873 when Yataro became the president officially. Mitsubishi means three-diamond crest. He acquired more ships and his philosophy was to put customers first.

President Koyata cautioned the managers against focusing blindly on profits and losing sight of the Groups adherence to a high standard of behavior and urging them to respond to the competitors. He reminded them of meeting expectations of their customers. He also observed and adhered to cultural differences all over the world.

Shiro Futaki serves as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Manufacturing at Mitsubishi Motors North America. He served as the Executive Officer and Director of Mitsubishi Motor Corporation.
Shinichi Kurihara has been the Chief Operating Officer of Minicar JV at Nissan since April 2011. He was the CEO and President of Mitsubishi Motors since 2009. He served as the Senior Executive Officer of Mitsubishi Motor Corporation. He also served as the Executive Officer and Corporate General Manager of Product Strategy at Mitsubishi.
Genichiro Nishina has been the Chief Executive Officer and President of Mitsubishi Motors Australia since 2011. He has held several positions as the corporate general manager of ASEAN operations. He has experience in product planning and marketing.
Takashi Nishioka is the Advisor at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. He was the Chairman of Board of Japan Post Holdings since 2009. He is also the Chairman and Representative Director of Mitsubishi Motors. He served as the Chairman of Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation until March 2010. He also served as the Chairman of Mitsubishi Heave Industries since 2003.
Hiroshi Harunari serves as the Managing Director, Corporate General Manager of Overseas Business Management Office and Head Officer of Overseas Operations at Mitsubishi group in Europe and Middle East/Africa Office. He served as the Corporate General Manager of Group Corporate Strategy Office of Mitsubishi Motors.

There are many manufacturing facilities in Japan, Netherlands, Philippines, Thailand, United States, and Brazil. There are a total of seven manufacturing facilities in these five countries.
There are also 12 plants co-owned in partnership with others. It has further engine and transmission manufacturing plants, five R&D centers and 75 subsidiaries, affiliates and partners. It manufacturers vehicles in 160 countries.
The Head Office and Tokyo Design Studio are located in Minato, Tokyo, the Car and Research Development Centers are located in Okazaki, Aichi, Kyoto and Hokkaido.
Mitsubishi Motor R&D of Europe GmbH is located at Trebur, Hessen while the American counterpart is located in Ann Arbor Michigan. Mitsubishi Motors of America- the R&D center is located in California in the United States.
There are production facilities that are located in Japan and Worldwide. In Japan, the facilities are located at the Nagoya Plant in Aichi, the Mizushima Plant in Okayama, the Pajero Manufacturing Plant in Sakahogi, Gifu, the Kyoto Powertrain Plan, and the Koka Shiga Plant. All over the world, the facilities are located in Normal, Illinois, Cainta, Rizal, Catalao Brazil, Klong Luang Thailand, and Born Netherlands.
Mitsubishi cars are fitted with the Mitsubishi Motors all-wheel control system. The system extracts its means from the performance and traction of the four tires. The all-wheel control system cultivates its long history in really racing. Everytime a driver turns corners, this system keeps the car in control. There is a Super Select four wheel drive system that offers on the fly driving. There is a 4WD system and a rear-wheel drive system which improves fuel economy and reduces noise.
The Multi-select 4WD system strikes a balance between the 4WD system and the 2WD system. It offers a sporty field on the road. There is excellent performance and driving conditions. The technology has a transfer case, a select switch and electronically controlled coupling.
In Safety technologies there’s the ABS and Brake Assist, the Stability Control and the Noise View Camera. The brake system prevents slippage due to tire lock. Under this system tired do not lock and vehicle is stable.
The MMCs screen displays images from cameras mounted on the left and right side, which helps support the sections. The system has a camera that provides rear view and nose view.
There is a Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution Body. In the event of a collision maintaining the survival space is essentially. There is a straight frame construction, octangular front side members and 3-way input distribution cross-dash pillar braces to absorb and distribute energy. There is a tailored bank technology where welds are formed of various thickness.
By the end of the decade Mitsubishi vehicles were picking up honors both at home and abroad, including South Africa's 1977 "Car of the Year" (the Galant) and 1979 "USA's Pick-up of the Year" (the L200). But this was just the start. In 1982 the Pajero/ Montero was launched, a 4x4 which was quite different from anything that had been seen before. Quite incredibly, just a few months later in the Paris-Dakar rally, it took honors in the Production Class and the Marathon Class, as well as the Best Team award. Two years later it won outright and a legend was born. The Shogun became a global best-seller, winning "4x4 of the Year" awards in Britain, France, Australia, Spain and West Germany. And it was not alone on the honors list - Galants, Colts, Lancers and L200s were all being honored worldwide.
Throughout the 1990s the Pajero/Montero continued to dominate rally events like the Dakar, and Mitsubishi vehicles also began to make their mark on the World Rally Championships. By the end of the century Tommi Makinen in a Lancer had won the Championship an historic four consecutive times whilst Lancers totally dominated the Group N Championships - for vehicles which are basically showroom standard.
Technologically this decade saw incredible advances. In 1990 MMC introduced the world's first Traction Control System, followed by Super Select 4WD and Multi-mode ABS in 1991 and INVECS in 1992. Commercial production of the Libero electric car began in 1994 whilst 1996 saw the development of the GDI engine.
In terms of motor-sport, the strength of Mitsubishi's 4x4 heritage was yet again demonstrated by a record breaking 12th victory in the 2007 Dakar rally - the seventh successive victory for the Japanese manufacturer. Today, MMC has manufacturing facilities in over 30 countries and its sales and after-sales organization is present in more than 170 countries.
As part of a global expansion program, in 1998 Indian distribution was ensured with the formation of "The Chennai Car Plant", a technical collaboration between the Mitsubishi Motors Corporation Japan and Hindustan Motors Limited.
Mitsubishi has offices all over the world and also plants and research and development facilities.
Mitsubishi plans to expand export/import business of Mitsubishi in India with ASEAN countries, expand the business in India and go beyond simple import/export by bringing in its global strengths in sophisticated trading functions such as financing, credit control, warehousing and logistics, systems etc suited to the Indian market. They plan to increase the contribution by local Indian staff in the managerial and business areas, added Mr Kitagawa.
"We are of a firm opinion that India is a very important country though it may not be the right time at present to make bigger investments. Today, it is time for us to consolidate our platform in India, train our people more and get better people into the company. Most Japanese companies think since the pace of change (economic reforms) in India is slow, they can take their time and invest at leisure. But we will not miss the bus," Mr Hara added.
Mitsubishi India had revenues of $900 million (over Rs 4,200 crore) in 2002 which included sales income from supply of rolling stock to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
Mitsubishi is the largest supplier of shrimp from India to Japan. Its export and import business in India includes chemicals, textiles, petroleum products, machinery, metal, sea food items and petrochemicals. Mitsubishi has established a local joint venture Snowman Frozen Food for cold store warehousing and logistics network in the country. Its network presently covers 10 sites located all over the country. The company provides services not only to manufacturers of food products in storing and moving their goods but to super markets and convenience stores by storing and distributing frozen foods to their outlets.
Mitsubishi plans to kill the Eclipse and Galant models to concentrate on the B and C segment models which are the Lancer, the Outlander Sport and some more based on the Colt.
Mitsubishi will build up its electric and hybrid power plants featuring the i-Miev pure electric. Mitsubishi sold about 55,683 trucks and cars in 2010. The best seller amongst these was the Mitsubishi Lancer which sold 21, 416 units.
Mitsubishi offers the Evo X. Mitsubishi plans to revamp their product lineup eliminating the US-only vehicles and going for the ones with the global platform in 2013. Even the Endeavor will be killed off. These will be replaced with the global platform models.
Mitsubishi plans to introduce six electric cars or hybrids by 2015 beginning with the MiEV. Their production will be 5% powered by electricity by 2015.
The company plans to build cars which are financially and environmentally more responsible. They will focus on minicars and small cars. They plan to increase the midsize platforms and also release an SUV.
They will build cars in the US for export.
