Nissan is a Japanese maker of cars. It was a member of the Nissan Group but now it has formed in independent entity. The global headquarters of the company are located at Nishi-ku, Yokohama. Renault and Nissan formed a partnership in which Nissan holds 15% of Renault shares and Renault owns 43% of Nissan.
Nissan became the second largest manufacturer of cars in Japan. It also produces luxurious cars under the brand name Infiniti.
Nissan located its North American headquarters from Gardena California to cool Springs, Nashville, Tennessee. About 1,500 employees work here.
The company’s headoffice moved from Tokyo to Yokohama in August 2009. Nissan set up a production unit at Oragadam in Madras.
Nissan began development of fuel cells in 1006 and launched the X-Trail FCV in Japan. Toyota and Nissan agreed to tie up on hybrid technologies and Nissan unveiled the Altima Hybrid.
Nissan started with the Kwaishinsha Company started by Masujiro Hashimoto in Tokyo’s district in 1911. Hashimoto was a pioneer in Japan’s industry. There was a car that came out that was known as the Dat Car. Dat represents the first letters of the family names of Hashimoto’s three principal backers: Kenjiro Den, Rokuro Aoyama and Meitaro Takeuchi.
Jitsuyo Jidosha was a predecessor of Nissan and was established in Osaka in 1919 to make Gorham styled three wheeled vehicles.
Kwaishinsha Company and Jitsuyo Jodohsa Company merged in 1926 to for the Dat Jidosha Siezo Company. This led to establishment of the Nissan Motor Company.
In 1936, Nissan purchased a facility for making cars and trucks. Nissan also manufactured engines for army plans and boats.
Yoshisuke Aikawa was born in Yamaguchi prefecture. He graduated from Tokyo Imperial University (present Tokyo University). He lived in the United States, when Yoshisuke concealed his academic accomplishments and worked in a factory, where he developed casting skill. He established Tobata Casting Co., Ltd., after his return to Japan.
Masujiro Hashimoto led by establishing Kwaishinsha. The factory embarked on domestic automobile production, which became the forerunner of the domestic automobile industry.

He holds an engineering degree from Ecole Polytechnique and the Ecole des Mines de Paris in France.

Nissan won the 2010 What’s New by Popular Science award. The Synchrorev Match Transmission on the 2010 Nissan Z® has been named a Best of What’s New Award by Popular Science for 2009 within the Automotive category for its outstanding innovation and execution.
Nissan has the Renault Nissan Automotive India Private Limited company in India and has various other branches in China, Thailand, and Malaysia.
Nissan, the Japanese automaker will increase its components exports from India by 2012 at around $40-million from $10-million this year, a top company official said thereby making the exports four times. .
"We will ship components worth $10-million this year. In 2011, we will export components to the tune of $20-million and by 2012 worth $40-million," Nissan Motor India Private Limited (NMIPL)'s managing director and CEO, Kiminobu Tokuyama, told reporters.
The components which are being sourced from various Indian vendors include side air bags, brake pedals and oil pumps, among others, Tokuyama said.
The company is expected to export 1.1-lakh by 2011 and exports would go up to 1.8-lakh units in a couple of years.
"Exports at this stage would be greater than the domestic market. But it does not necessarily mean that we are prioritizing exports. Both the India market and the emerging markets are important to us," he said.
85% of sales of Nissan come from exports.
Nissan expect to sell 40,000 Micras in India in 2011 against 6.500 sold in 2010. The company will roll out the car at the end of 2011. Along with this, with Renault the company plans to setup up a second production plant in 2012 as part of its future growth plans.
They will then increase production to 1,00,000 units by 2013. Nissan also plans to launch a C-segment car to compete with the Toyota Eitos and it will be launched before the end of 2011. It will be a new sedan. The company will also add more products under the V platform. With Renault in a joint venture Nissan will have five new cars by end of 2012 and will roll out new plants.
Nissan will also localize the diesel engine to a maximum level in India. The company will also launch luxury vehicles in the CBU model.
The company also plans to start a third shift in its Oragadam plant which will increase its capacity to 2 lakh units and finally to 4 lakh units in the future.
