The Fluence is a mid-sized sedan, which rests just under the entry-level premium segment. It was introduced in 2011 in the Indian market and it is based on the Renault-Nissan C Platform and now the French car maker has launched a refreshed version of the car. The Fluence competes with the Toyota Corolla Altis, the Chevrolet Cruze, and the Volkswagen Jetta.
Design & Styling
The new Fluence is a rather large looking car that has got lots of curves and a rear end that sticks up and out giving the car an angular approach and wide body stance. It is a rather good-looking car and is well over 4.5 metres in length, making it seem like a full size sedan. There is a prominent large front griller and some strong wheel arches to give the car a muscle look. The refreshed Fluence gets new grille and restyled headlamps. The bumper has also been replaced and gets chrome surrounds of the fog lights. There are also new 6-inch alloys.

Interiors
The best thing about the interiors is the massive amounts of space and the ultra confortable seats. There is lots of headroom and plenty of legroom for all passengers. The dashboard and instrument cluster are also designed well and the ergonomics work good too. The steering wheel has got a nice layout and everything seems to be practically arranged. The new Fluence gets new leather seats.
Engine & Transmission
The new Fluence comes with the same underpowered by well refineda diesel 1461cc unit that creates 108bhp and 240Nm of torque and it is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.
Performance and Handling
The new Fluence is much the same as the original and the engine is still underpowered with plenty of lag. The car moves forward quote slow but the throttle response and gear changes are smooth. On the highway is where the car performs best. The car also comes with ventilated disc brakes that do the job very well indeed. The steering setup of the car is quite good. In the city it does seem a little light but as you pick up speed the steering response is good and you get more confidence in handling. The other good quality is the smooth suspension setup. Renault has done a good job with the suspension as the ride quality is very nice and smooth and even on bumpy roads the cabin is comfortable. The car is not the most fun and engaging car to drive, but in no way is it a dull performer.
Fuel Efficiency
The Fluence provides around 15kmpl.
Features
The Fluence comes packed with features such as power steering, power windows, pollen filter air conditioning with dual zone automatic climate control, advanced audio system with display and Bluetooth, smart access key with engine start/stop, rain sensitive wipers, cruise control and a speed limiter.
Safety
Safety features include rear parking system aid, ABS, Stability control, Brake Assist, Anti slip regulation and SRS airbags.
Quality & Reliability
The Fluence comes with good quality materials on both the inside and the outside. The components on the inside are very nice and the seats are very comfortable. The dashboard and sturdy also made of strong plastics. Overall the car is very well built and the engines are well refined and efficient. Some parts might be expensive to replace but the car comes with a good warranty and servicing will not be a problem.
Value for Money
The Fluence could pass of as a full size sedan, but it does seem just a bit over priced. But you are still getting a good package, it is just that you can get other cars in the same segment that offer the same for a little less.
Verdict
The Fluence is a good car in its own right, but it’s not the most engaging driver’s car. There is of course plenty of space and a very comfortable cabin. If you are looking for something a little more fun you can check out the Chevrolet Cruze, if you want better quality try the Toyota, but if you want space and comfort on a good looking car then the Fluence is a good choice.
