The Corolla Altis is the entry level luxury vehicle from the Japanese car maker. The Corolla Altis was first introduced in 1966 as a sub compact sedan at one point of time it was the best-selling car in the world. The Corolla Altis was launched in India in 2003. Today the Corolla Altis competes with the Chevrolet Cruze, Volkswagen Jetta, Skoda Laura, and Renault Fluence. The Corolla Altis comes with a 1.8 litre petrol engine but with the options of manual or automatic transmissions.
Design & Styling
The Corolla Altis has remained unchanged since its launch in India in 2003. At the same time it does manage to look modern, but not as appealing as the other cars in its segment. It has got a good clean cut and practical design. The car is quite long at 4.5 metres and has a nice curvy silhouette design. The front hood features a nice chrome grille with some sharp rectangular headlamps. The mid section of the car is quite big and the rear section is also designed well with large tail lamps and a chrome finish. The wheels also feature alloys and the tyres are nice and big.

Interiors
The Interiors of the Corolla are very nice and they exude a sense of comfort and style. It is not the most fascinating interior setup but it is still very nice and modern. There is also a lot of space for all passengers and lots of storage compartments. The dashboard is very well lit up along with the instrument cluster. Everything looks to be in the right place and the ergonomics are spot on. The boot is also nice and big for you to store luggage.
Engine & Transmission
The Corolla comes with a very well engineered 1798cc petrol 4-cylinder engine that can create 138bhp and 173Nm of torque. Then you get the option of either a 6-speed manual or a Super CVT 7-speed automatic. We drove the manual version and were quite impressed by it.
Performance and Handling
Once again Toyota does not make the most exciting cars for drivers, but they do make very nice cars indeed. The engine of the Corolla is simply brilliant and you don’t feel any sort of jerk or vibration or even noise for that matter. The car picks up speed very well and you get power whenever you need it. However the one thing we didn’t quite like was the clutch. It was too light and you couldn’t feel much of it, making gear changes somewhat less confident for the driver. Simply put the gearing was perfect but there was no feedback to the driver and sometime in traffic that car would stall. It takes time getting a hang of it, but once you do it’s not really a problem. The ride quality is awesome and super smooth that it might just put you to sleep. It really is that comfortable a car. The steering was also a little less responsive than what we like, but again you get use to it.
Fuel Efficiency
We managed to get a fuel economy of 11kmpl. After all this was a large petrol engine.
Features
The features include power steering, power windows, air conditioning, multi information display, in-dash DVD touch screen and audio unit with Bluetooth and steering mounted controls. Then there is also central locking, cruise control and push start/stop system.
Safety
Safety features include SRS airbags, ABS with EBD, smart key and reverse sensors.
Quality & Reliability
Top notch quality is what you will find in the Corolla. Everything is made perfectly and we could find not faults whatsoever. Everything is built to last and look good at the same time. The car is very well engineered, the chassis is perfect and the engine beautifully engineered. It is very reliable and servicing is never an issue with Toyota.
Value for Money
The Corolla is a great all-round car and is priced decently giving it great value for your money.
Verdict
We like the interiors, the comfort and the beautifully crafted engine. We also like the quality of the whole product. What we didn’t like si that the drive is not very engaging and it will put you to sleep. It’s not bad to drive but if you are not keen on driving then this is definitely a car you need to look into.
